My Ex-husband Begs Me Back
Chapter 1164: Suggestion

Chapter 1164: Suggestion

"Have you forgotten their attitude towards you? Don't you want to continue investigating?" Preston seized the moment and said, "Cami, now that I work at Armstrong Corp, although I have a cooperative relationship with your father, it's only temporary. It can dissolve at any time. If you have any plans regarding the Armstrong family, just hint at it or tell me directly. I'll give my all to help you vent your frustrations built up over the years."

Preston spoke while keeping his eyes on Camille, eager to gauge her reaction after his proposition.

However, Camille remained motionless, displaying no emotion on her face. Her eyes were calm, as if this suggestion failed to provoke any response from her. She looked at Preston and calmly said, "I don't need you to do that, and I don't have to. I have no demands on the Armstrong family. Whatever the Armstrong family chooses to do is their business, and it doesn't concern me. I'm not interested in these matters, so you don't have to do anything for me, Preston. I hope you understand that. Is that clear?"

This was the second time Preston suggested taking action against the Armstrong family for her sake, but Camille never harbored thoughts of retaliating against them. She didn't want Preston to misunderstand her intentions or take actions in her name.

Camille's serious and sincere words caught Preston off guard for a moment. He nodded lightly and said, "I understand.”

Camille intended to say more but decided against it. Saying anything more at this point might not be beneficial.

Preston shifted the topic to Horace, showing curiosity. "Cami, I heard from your dad that you sold your shares in Armstrong Corp to Horace?" This wasn't a secret, so Preston finding out was neither surprising nor strange to Camille.

She nodded, providing a straightforward response, "Yes, I sold them to him."

Preston furrowed his brows slightly and asked in a low voice, "Why did you do that? Although Armstrong Corp may not be ideal now, I've planned several significant projects for the future. After the collaboration on the museum project, there will be many more to come. This is a good start. Cami, what you did is a loss, and it makes Armstrong Corp susceptible to Horace's interference.”

"Horace is the executive at Armstrong Corp. His decisions should be right, shouldn't they?"

“I know it's the right decision, but your shares contribute to more obstruction from Horace. Continuing like this, as Armstrong Corp grows, I'm afraid Horace will develop second thoughts. If it goes on like this, it will be challenging to recover when the time comes." Preston squinted at Camille, hoping she would take his words to heart and immediately communicate with Horace.

Camille fell into a brief silence. She pressed her lips together, offering no response. In her heart, questions arose regarding Preston's words. Their eyes met in the next moment, and Preston continued, "Cami, I'm not saying all this to make you do something. I just hope you'll think about it a bit more. Because Horace isn't truly on our side. His thoughts are too complex, and we can't see through them. Moreover, when he initially came to Hance City, it was mainly to buy shares of Armstrong Corp. I'm concerned that he might have some hidden agenda with the Armstrong family.”

"Hidden agenda with the Armstrong family?" Camille felt surprised and shocked.

Preston clarified, "What I mean is, could they be colluding to deceive you, intentionally trying to take away your shares?"

Camille was completely stunned.

Her thoughts seemed to freeze in the midst of his words. However, she didn't stay silent for long. She gently shook her head and said in a low voice, “That's unlikely."

"Do you trust Horace so much? How do you know it's not a possibility? Cami, don't forget, Horace is in collaboration with the Armstrong family, and they've always been eyeing your shares. If the Armstrong family convinces Horace or offers him some benefits, do you still think he wouldn't cooperate with them?"

“It's just a small share. I don't think Horace would go to such lengths." "Not Horace, but can you guarantee the Armstrong family won't? As long as the Armstrong family offers enough, how could Horace possibly turn a blind eye?" Preston genuinely believed that Horace would covet Camille's shares. Although it was only a small portion, sometimes even a small share could play a significant role.

If this continued, such a scenario was bound to happen sooner or later. So, he silently told himself that he must convince Camille to doubt Horace.

After his words, he didn't rush to say anything else. Instead, he looked at Camille, waiting for her response.

But Camille fell into a brief silence, her eyes showing a hint of indifference. She seemed to be deep in thought.

Maintaining this silence for a while, she finally spoke in a calm and composed manner, "Preston, I understand your intentions, and I know you're looking out for me. However, I have my considerations about this matter. The reason I don't believe Horace will succeed is that I have a cooperation agreement with him. Even though I sold him the shares, he doesn't have the authority to handle my shares. Do you understand what I mean?"

Camille mentioned the agreement in a reassuring tone to prevent Preston from finding reasons to persuade her. However, she underestimated Preston's mindset. He didn't see these assurances as adequate and retorted, "Cami, agreements are just pieces of paper. In essence, they're not very effective. What if he takes possession despite the agreement? Have you considered what you'll do then?"

"Preston, I have my plans. Let's leave it at that for now," Camille said. Preston's persistent concern was simply that the shares in Horace's hands were inappropriate. As for who would be suitable, perhaps only Preston himself had a clear idea in his heart.

Camille didn't want to continue with these trivial matters. She raised her wrist to check the time on her watch. "It's getting late, and you should probably head to the office?"

Camille was ready to leave, as everything that needed to be said had been said. Continuing the conversation would likely only lead to awkwardness.

However, Preston didn't think it was enough. He said, "I don't have to go to the office today because there's nothing to do. Horace controls everything in Armstrong Corp, and he doesn't give me a chance to handle other projects and business. So, I have a lot of free time." Preston's words carried implications and reminders, but Camille pretended not to understand.

Camille didn't truly hope for Preston to understand her words and end their afternoon tea. She only said them for Sienna, who was on the other end of the call.

After about a minute, Camille's phone rang.

Without looking, she knew it was Sienna calling. They had been in constant communication, and Sienna was probably calling to acknowledge Camille's hint.

Camille casually picked up her phone, glanced at the caller ID, which, as expected, showed no difference. She answered, "Hello, Sienna? Are you done with your tasks?"

Sienna whispered, "Yes, I'm done. How about you? I'm at the coffee shop entrance. Come out; parking isn't allowed here."

Camille said, "Alright, I'm coming out now."

After ending the call, she looked at Preston sitting across from her and said, "Sienna is here to pick me up. We've planned to choose a gift. So, I'll have to leave now."

Preston's expression was slightly subdued, but since Camille had made it clear, he seemed unable to insist on anything further.
