My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 889: Impulse
Chapter 889: Impulse
Kian nodded and immediately prepared to investigate, but as he was about to take a step, Ayan's voice rang out again, "If you can't find anything, let it go. If Cora really did contact Preston, judging from Quintus’ actions, Cora probably hasn't said anything to Preston yet. She might be waiting for him to return from Flento before speaking up." "So, you mean Cora won't say anything that could harm you, at least for now?"
“For now, that seems to be the case. If she had something to say, she would have said it already. Preston wouldn't wait until now to contact Camille unless he wanted us to have a serious conflict that can't be resolved. That's what he's been hoping for, and it's unlikely he'd remain doing nothing after knowing the truth.”
Ayan squinted slightly, his expression calm and icy. There was a thick layer of indifference on his face, and he knew Preston's character very well, especially how Preston treated him. He knew it inside out.
After saying that, Ayan instructed Kian in a cold tone, "Preston is currently in Flento , and Zoie went there too. Let him stay in Flento for a while. Use this time to find Cora. If she's not restricted, she can't hide for too long."
No matter where Preston arranged for her to live, as long as she was still in Hance, she couldn't hide for long.
Ayan had confidence and assurance in this.
Kian quickly understood Ayan's intention. After leaving the office, he immediately contacted the people in Flento and instructed them to pass on the news about Zoie going there to Molly. If Molly didn't plan to take any action, then spread some rumors in Flento. Only then would the Walker family not turn a blind eye to the situation.
The Walker family now wished for Molly and Preston not to get married. If they found any reason, they would surely make a big fuss about it. And following Ayan's instructions, Kian used several channels to contact a top-notch lawyer in the Flento City circle. This lawyer was well-known and had his own law firm. He served as a legal adviser for many major corporations and was considered a prominent figure in the legal field. He had several successful students who were highly regarded in Flento.
The lawyer "happened" to meet Luke at a dinner party through Kian's arrangement and, with the help of others, brought up the current situation of the Walker family. Luke didn't want to discuss family matters, but after considering it carefully, he still wanted to ensure that there were no problems with the contracts from the Walker Group's legal team.
Luke immediately showed the contract to the lawyer, who found that the contract itself had no problems, but there were a few places where questions could be raised or problems could be pointed out. The lawyer pointed out the issues directly and asked Luke, "If you don't mind me asking, Mr. Walker, did your own legal team at Walker Group draft this contract?"
Luke didn't understand the lawyer's intention, so his face stiffened, and he hesitated before asking if there was anything wrong with the contract.
The lawyer only smiled faintly and then said casually, "It's not exactly wrong, but if Mr. Walker's own legal team drafted it, they shouldn't have made such basic mistakes. After all, it's hard to notice these minor issues, but when you really go to court, it's difficult to defend them." After pointing it out, the lawyer didn't say much more about it, but Luke had already understood the implications.
Luke expressed his gratitude to the prominent lawyer repeatedly, and the next day after returning from the dinner gathering, he began to discreetly staff his own legal team.
However, all of these actions were carried out silently, without a hint of information reaching Preston.
Because of the lawyer's words, Luke's wariness towards Preston deepened even further.
Luke personally called for Molly to come to Walker Group because some things couldn't be said at home. But in company, around people who were his, it would be safer and more reliable.
When Molly arrived at Luke's office, she looked puzzled and asked, "Dad, what's the matter? Why did you ask me to come?"
Molly was having a hard time with her pregnancy and didn't eat or sleep well recently, making her look quite haggard. As her father, Luke naturally saw it and felt for her.
Luke gestured to the sofa, indicating for her to sit down. He then instructed his secretary to prepare some fruit. After the office was left with just the two of them, Luke looked at Molly and asked, "Molly, are you still determined to marry him?"
Molly's eyelids trembled slightly as she looked at her father. Luke seemed to have aged a lot because of her decision to marry Preston, and Naomi was also caught in the middle of the father-daughter conflict.
But she couldn't waver.
She nodded, "Yes, I'm going to marry him. It's what he promised me. Dad, I'm already an adult, and I'm ready to take responsibility for my choices.”
Molly seemed to carry a heavy burden in her heart. Her expression was no longer solely driven by her desire to marry Preston. It seemed to be mixed with something that even Luke couldn't understand.
Luke asked, "Molly, are you really happy with him?"
Molly smiled lightly, “We're good, Dad. You can rest assured."
Luke didn't ask further and just said, "You've thought it through. If you marry him, you won't inherit anything from our family.”
Molly seemed indifferent and replied, "Dad, I don't want it. You don't need to consider what I thonk about it. He's the baby's father, and he should take responsibility.”
Molly had always been spoiled as the only girl in the Walker family, and since she was a child, she had been pampered. That's why Luke was somewhat incredulous when he heard her say such things.
But Molly didn't want to give him any more chances to ask, so she quickly urged Luke to bring all the documents and agreements that would prevent her from inheriting anything.
The father and daughter acted quickly, and Molly barely looked at the documents before signing and stamping them. After signing her name, Molly casually took a photo and didn't forget to say to Luke, "Dad, no matter what happens, as long as I have no regrets, you mustn't waver. Otherwise, my signature today would be in vain, and all your efforts would be wasted. You'd be slapping yourself in the face."
Molly's words were accompanied by a smile at the corner of her mouth, leaving Luke somewhat helpless. There were things he couldn't directly express. Molly's response made him feel a bit puzzled.
Indeed, his child had grown up and developed her own thoughts. As parents, there were some things they couldn't fully grasp.
Molly sent the photo directly to Preston after taking it. As soon as she left Walker Group, Preston's phone began to ring.
Molly didn't immediately answer the call. Instead, she just stared at the screen displaying the name "Preston," which caught her off guard. Right before the call was about to end automatically, Molly finally answered.
Her voice was low and calm as she spoke, "Brother, what's wrong?" She had called him "brother" for many years, and Molly had grown used to it. So, she usually referred to Preston that way.
Preston's voice didn't reveal any emotions, but he asked, "Are you still at the office?"
"Yes, just got out. I signed the papers with Dad. You saw the picture I sent you, right?"
Preston hesitated briefly, his voice a little tense as he asked, "Didn't you say you needed time to think through it? Why did you suddenly make a decision? Why didn't you tell me beforehand?"
Preston's words seemed to show a hint of agitation towards the end. Molly didn't answer immediately but asked calmly, "Are you angry?" Preston quickly denied, "No, I'm not angry. I just think you might be too impulsive with this decision.”
"Impulsive?" Molly's expression remained calm, her eyes devoid of emotions and ripples. She seemed to be in a daze, and she said, "Dad asked me to consider it, and I just felt that I've thought it through. Compared to everything related to the Walker family, I'd rather be with you. Isn't that what you want too?"
Molly's face showed a hint of indifference as she waited for Preston's response. Her face displayed a gentle detachment, and her eyes seemed empty, revealing nothing about what she was thinking. Preston didn't answer immediately, and the atmosphere became quiet for several seconds. Molly asked, "Brother, why aren't you saying anything? Did I do something wrong?"
