My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 1007: Fire Pit
Chapter 1007: Fire Pit
"This is difficult to choose.”
"Well, who do you think is right, her or your parents?" Horace asked in a different way. He continued, "Choose the side you believe is right, and together, you'll face the one that's not."
Horace didn't really make Grace voice her answer because he knew she already had itin her heart.
Because Grace had left home without any communication, and Camille couldn't be reached, the Armstrong family was in complete chaos.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley decided to pay a visit.
It was already eleven o'clock at night when they arrived.
Mr. Wesley and Mrs. Wesley sat in the living room, their eyes fixed on Brody and Page. Mr. Wesley inquired, "Mr. Armstrong, you're changing the plan we agreed upon. You promised we'd have dinner tonight. Why the sudden change? How can we have a good cooperation if you go back on your word?"
Brody maintained a serious expression as he looked at Mr. Wesley. "There were some unexpected developments, so we had to cancel dinner tonight. But rest assured, we won't break our promise. However, we need a bit more time."
Mrs. Wesley asked, "How much more time do you need?"
"I can't determine the exact time at the moment. Don't you need an obedient and sensible daughter-in-law? We need to handle it properly. As you've seen, our younger daughter can be quite rebellious and stubborn. We've already arranged for our elder daughter to come and talk to her, to help change her mindset."
Brody responded curtly, his expression remaining cold.
The room was filled with tension and a sense of scrutiny. Mr. Wesley narrowed his eyes as he observed Brody. With a stoic face, he asked, "Mr. Armstrong, are you saying that you haven't convinced your daughter yet?"
Brody replied, "We'll need to have a good talk. Mr. Wesley, you surely don't want a disobedient daughter-in-law, do you? Given your son's complicated situation, we need to handle this carefully.”
"Mr. Armstrong, you have to give me a deadline.”
"I'd like to resolve this as soon as possible. Both of you can explore Hancein the meantime."
"The Wesley family has a busy schedule. We'd like to wrap this up and head back soon. Mr. Armstrong, you understand the concerns of having your own company in someone else's hands. Are you really at ease with that?"
Mrs. Wesley's words were laced with a subtle taunt, and Brody, who cared a lot about his reputation, couldn't hide his displeasure. He felt a wave of frustration building up inside him, but he kept his composure, though his face showed his discontent clearly.
Brody remained silent, not wanting to escalate the situation further. However, Mrs. Wesley didn't stop there. She continued, "Mr. Armstrong and Mrs. Armstrong, since we're sincerely interested in this union, and considering that your younger daughter's progress might be slower, we can consider your elder daughter as well. As you saw last night, she's obedient and polite. Both of you can easily influence her. What do you think?"
Mrs. Wesley's words caused both Brody and Page to freeze, and while Brody didn't show much reaction, Page immediately exclaimed, "No, that's not possible!"
Page flatly refused, and the atmosphere in the room grew tense. Mrs. Wesley looked at Page with confusion and asked, "Mrs. Armstrong, I don't understand what you mean."
Page took a deep, silent breath, her face still stiff. However, she felt strangely calm while trying to maintain her composure. She looked at Mr. Wesley and Mrs. Wesley with a smile that was more grimace than cry and said, "Mr. Wesley, Mrs. Wesley, we had initially agreed on our younger daughter. Let's stick to the original plan.”
Mrs. Wesley looked at Page with a quizzical expression, her doubt evident in her words, "Mrs. Armstrong, do you have reservations about your eldest daughter? Do you think she's too good for the Wesley family?"
"Of course not," Page hastily denied, her gaze involuntarily seeking Brody's help. However, Brody remained deep in thought, his face showing no emotion. Page had to rely on herself and continued, "Mrs. Wesley, please don't misunderstand. Our eldest daughter already has a boyfriend, so she isn't suitable for the Wesley family. Our younger daughter is the right choice. Besides, she's already had a child, while our eldest daughter follows the DINK lifestyle."
Page's words seemed to satisfy Mrs. Wesley, who didn't press further. However, there was still a hint of disbelief in her eyes, as if she found Page's explanation somewhat hard to believe.
But the Wesley family decided not to pursue the matter any further and didn't want to make things awkward.
Under repeated questioning from the Wesley family, Brody reluctantly agreed to a three-day deadline.
Three days later, Camille had to be handed over to the Wesley family, who would then take her back to Chesen.
Once the Wesley family left, it was almost dawn.
But Brody and Page couldn't sleep at all, especially Page. She looked at Brody with concern and asked, "When Mrs. Wesley mentioned Grace, why didn't you say anything? No matter what, I can never agree to handing Grace over to the Wesley family.”
Brody's face remained impassive, a coldness in his eyes. He replied calmly, “Do you think I want to? But we've taken the money from the Wesley family, and we have to execute this perfectly. If Camille keeps up this attitude, what can we do?"
“If we can't convince Camille, why not just end this partnership? Do you really want to push Grace into the fire pit?" Page questioned coldly, unaware of the implications of her words. She knew this was a dangerous path, but she was still insistent on pushing Camille into it. Neither of them thought it was a fire pit for Camille; instead, they believed it was for her own good and that only by doing this could Camille fulfill her potential. However, Grace was another matter, and Page was not willing in a thousand ways.
As for what Brody was really thinking, perhaps only he knew.
That night, Brody and Page tossed and turned, each strategizing for their own goals. But all their plans hinged on Camille's approval. Before they could come up with a solid plan, there was trouble at Armstrong Corp.
Early the next morning, Brody received a call from the company's legal department.
The legal department respectfully informed Brody, “Mr. Armstrong, do you have time to come to the company today? There are some matters that need to be verified with you."
Brody asked, puzzled, "What do you need to verify with me?" Typically, the legal department handled internal matters related to changes in positions within the company and legal issues among top executives. If there were legal matters to deal with, they should have contacted Horace, not him. So Brody was curious about the purpose of their call.
The legal department explained, "This matter may require a face-to- face discussion. Are you available to come to the company?"
Brody pressed further, "What's this about? SJust say it."
He had spent a sleepless night worrying about how to persuade Camille and how to expedite the cooperation with the Wesley family. He had little patience for anything else.
The legal department finally divulged, "Mr. Armstrong, there has been a change in company ownership. Mr. Burris has invited company executives and shareholders to a meeting. If you can't attend, please authorize your secretary to represent you and return the company seals and provide your signature.”
Brody was stunned by this unexpected news and asked, "What do you mean, a change in ownership? Why wasn't I informed? Did Horace make this decision on his own?"
Brody's immediate reaction was to suspect that Horace had taken his share of the company. Since both Brody and Horace held equal shares, it was the most logical conclusion.
However, the legal department couldn't provide a clear explanation, stating, "Mr. Armstrong, we don't have all the details at the moment. Mr. Burris will address this matter during the meeting. Are you able to come in person?"
Brody agreed to come immediately.
Upon arriving at the company, he went straight to Horace's office and demanded, "What's going on?"
