Misha

Everyone is finally ready to leave. My dad is in his dragon form, and Becky and Elijah are sitting on his back, waiting for me to climb on. I’m a bit confused about why Becky is coming with us. I thought she was staying behind with my mate, but I’m not questioning her decision.

“Alright,” I peer up at my friends on my dad’s back. I wish I could manage a smile, but my heart is cracking into tinier pieces by the second. Being separated from Josie isn’t going to be fun. “Shall I open the portal?”

“WAIT!”

I turn around, blinking, when Josie comes running towards me with a backpack. Tears are streaming down her face, but her smile turns wide when she sees me.

I’m attacked by Josie, aware of how Elijah and Becky snicker in the background when she climbs me like a tree. Her legs twist around me, and I snort at her.

“Yes,” she doesn’t deny it, which sparks my amusement. I hug her, and she hugs me back feverishly like she is trying to squeeze my head. Her smile is guilty. “Is it working?”

Josie is now feeling up my shoulders from under my hoodie, and I’m distracted by her touch. I’m such a damn puppet to her hands that I can’t do anything else but nod.

“I will carry you on my back,” I confirm. “When I open the portal, we will end up in the skies and have to soar down. Just hold on to my fur as hard as you can. Don’t worry about pulling it. I won’t be harmed, and you and our pup are more important than my hair.”

She smiles at that, and since I want to bed her as soon as possible, I take the shape of my winged wolf. I do it while holding Josie, but I move her to my back, and she giggles throughout the process.

“Oh, okay, that’s new!” Josie sounds amused and digs her hands into my fur to hold on.

I glance over my shoulder, and my tongue hangs out. This will be fun, gliding through the vampire realm with Josie—I’m going to show her all of my favorite places!

Without warning, I open the portal, and then I take off. My dad screeches behind me, following gladly. There is, however, a challenge in the sound he makes. He wishes to compete with me, which is fun.

‘Hold on as tightly as you can,’ I inform Josie as we glide through the skies. Below us is an endless white sea of clouds, and the wind is in our faces. ‘My dad has issued a challenge, and we have to outspeed him. You’re not afraid of heights, right?’

“I’m not afraid! I’m enjoying every second of this!”

Josie is practically lying down over the back side of my neck. Her whole body is as long as it is and strong enough to hold her. I’m more than happy that she is comfortable.

My affection, however, needs to be put aside. My dad is gaining on us, and I flap my wings faster. It doesn’t help much. How am I supposed to outspeed a huge dragon?! I can’t!

“Misha,” Josie strokes my head. “I can’t fail but notice that your dad is closing in on us,” her voice goes lower. “And your wolf might not be as fast in the skies as him, but… you never stated the rules, right?”

‘Rules?’

“How about you ice him?” Josie laughs darkly. “His wings, to be precise. Just for a few seconds. Think you can muster a temporary spell that just gives us a bit of a lead?”

I laugh inside my head. My mate is evil, just like me. ‘I love the way you’re thinking. And yes, I can definitely ice his wings momentarily, and enough to make us win this competition.’

With that, I summon ice winds and send them blasting behind me. My dad screeches in panic, and I hear his telepathic voice enter my head.

‘You’re using magic now?!’

I laugh evilly. ‘You never stated the rules, old man! My mate and I are winning this race!’

My dad laughs, amused. He doesn’t really age and looks extremely young compared to my mom(their lives are still bound by the mate bond). But he does change on the inside and seems to find it entertaining that I’m calling him my old man.

It warms my heart too. I have fun gliding in the skies, and once Josie and I make it through the cold, wet clouds, I can spot a familiar-looking hill. I set course for it while Josie shudders.

“Misha… could you do something about my drenched clothes?”

‘Oh, sorry,’ I gather all the water from her clothes and then focus on the people behind us, doing the same thing to them. ‘There, is that better?’

“Much better,” Josie strokes her fingers through my fur. “Sometimes, it’s easy to forget what a powerful mage you are.”

‘Easy to forget?’

“You’re very goofy.”

I laugh darkly. ‘Maybe, but I can assure you that my thoughts are anything but goofy right now.
