Misha

‘You’re behind, Misha!’ My dad shouts at me through his mind. Telepathy is our way of communicating in wolf and dragon form. ‘You got to step it up! I’ve defeated at least twenty Howler werewolves by now! Why are you slacking off?!’

Slacking off?!

Frustration courses through my veins. I’m sweaty, and my gorgeous white fur is bloodied. ‘I’m not slacking off, you old geezer! I defeated a freaking fox demon, and you didn’t! That count as AT LEAST ten werewolf soldiers! So shut your trap and mind your own business!’

‘Pfft!’ Damien snorts. Apparently, telepathy runs in the family. Even though he could never do it before, Damien recently learned how to read minds and s**t, thanks to my dad. ‘I defeated two of those fox thingies!’

I roll my eyes. ‘Please, uncle Damien. The one you defeated only had one tail! And the other had two! And guess how many tails the one I defeated had? Seven! f*****g seven tails!’

‘And?’ Damien challenges. ‘You’re stronger than me, so it’s fair! God knows I can’t just freeze and shatter a demon like it’s nothing!’

‘What the heck?!’ I growl. ‘What does god have to do with this?!’

‘It’s just an expression, son,’ my dad sighs. ‘Either way, we are running out of wolves to kill. Not much of a war if you ask me. Where is the real challenge? Isn’t the Alpha supposed to be here? Marissa’s demon mate? Tank Howler? That’s his name, right?’

‘Tank Howler!’ Damien laughs inside my head. ‘What sort of name is that? Who came up with that? Is the guy honestly named Tank? For real? Holy s**t. That’s a sad name for an Alpha.’

‘Yes, that’s his name, and yes…’ I can’t stop myself from joining in on the laughter. ‘It’s a weird name. Shit… can we be serious for a while?! I’m trying to scent more werewolves to defeat!’

‘Mhm, maybe you should find your mate?’ Damien says. ‘She is having trouble fighting one of those fox demons alone. I can spot her, and I’m on my way to help her.’

Wait, what?! Is Josie in trouble?!

‘Josie?!’ I’m panicking already. My mate is leading a group of werewolves on her own. She told me to trust her, and I do, but the thought of her struggling frightens me beyond comprehension. ‘Are you okay?’

‘Yes, why wouldn’t I be?!’ She snaps at me.

I pause in my steps, ears pulling back. ‘Are you… are you irritated with me?’ What the heck have I done?

‘Aside from not giving me s*x in weeks?!’ Josie laughs inside my head, but the sound is sardonic and bitter. ‘Sorry, was that too honest? Well, doesn’t matter! I’m mad, and I’m horny, and these f*****g enemy werewolves are keeping me from getting the D!’

I snort in amusement. ‘Are you drunk?’ Since when is she this honest? Did something happen?

‘Drunk? No… I’m just… f**k! One of those foxes bit me, and I’ve been irritated ever since; I think the bite was toxic! And why are there so many foxes? I’ve slaughtered three with two tails! Three! Like how many of the same does Marissa have?!’

‘I don’t know, but I think this war will end soon. The enemy is withdrawing, and there is no sign of the Alpha… anyway, enough about this boring war. Are you really turned on right now?’

Does she want me?

Josie and I haven’t had s*x in ages. I’m to blame for that, but damn, hearing that my mate is horny is affecting my brain. Fighting is the last thing on my mind right now.

‘Misha!’ Josie hisses. ‘It’s that toxic that made me say that, but I realize I should focus more on the battlefield. There are still enemies out here, and things still need to be done. Did I tell you that Alex and Tarryn are out here fighting alongside me?’

Instead of answering, I follow my mate’s scent in a trance, smirking wolfishly when I find her.

Josie is in her red lycan form, fighting another werewolf with her clawed hands. She reminds me of Wolverine, and my heart flutters with mischief. I’m going to have some fun with her.

‘Hello, my mate! I have arrived!’ I announce and strut over to an exhausted Josie.

Aww, she is so cute when she is panting. My heart swells, and I fasten my pace to close the distance between us.

‘Josie!’ I exclaim telepathically. ‘There you are!’

My wolf is larger than her lycan, and before my mate can react, I rub my face against her chest like an oversized cat. Her feet momentarily leave the ground as I bob my head up and down to get my scent all over her.

‘I’ve missed you, Josie!’

‘M-Misha?!’ She exclaims as I drag my head up and down her neck and stroke my tongue over her course fur. ‘W-what are you doing?! Shouldn’t you be fighting right now?!’

I wrinkle my nose and huff out a breath. ‘This war is over. I much rather go home and cuddle with you than stay another minute here.’

Before she can object, I tackle her down onto her back and lick her face with my paw pressing onto her chest. I’m mimicking the way she treated me in the past, and she immediately changes back to a human to scream at me.

“M-Misha!” She laughs, screams, spits, and rolls around on the ground like a hedgehog in a defense position. “S-stop! Ew! Stop doing that with your tongue! Misha!”

I don’t stop licking her. Not until the ground quakes, and I’m forced to reluctantly look up from my mate.

‘What was that?’ I ask.

“What was what?” Josie blinks up at me from the ground. Her red hair is spread around her like a halo, and her doe-eyes are wide. “Did you hear something?”

‘Didn’t you?’ I counter. ‘The whole ground shook just now.’

“It did?” Josie doesn’t seem convinced.

‘It definitely did,’ I let my gaze travel to the trees around us. I can no longer hear the battle, and I growl lowly. ‘Something is right. Things are too quiet around us, and the air feels… wrong.’

Josie pushes my paw off her stomach and stands up with her eyes wary of the scenery around us. She must be able to tell that something is off right now, and Josie gasps beside me.

“This… this isn’t the forest…”

‘No,’ I confirm and meet her eyes as she reaches out a hand to lean it against my shoulder blade. ‘I believe this is an illusion. It is strange that you and I are both stuck in it, which means the one who created it is very powerful. Possibly an Alpha.’

“Or maybe just a powerful werewolf?”

I turn my head, shocked that someone beside Josie heard my thoughts, and stare at a large man with leather-clad wings. He has a demonic aura around him and is holding a rose in his hand.

He is beautiful like I believed a demon would be. Dark hair, a flawless face, and a tall, muscular body. This man has that sort of beauty that makes it seem as if his gender is undefined.

‘Tank Howler?’ I ask.

The man smiles but doesn’t look at me. “That would be me.”

I snarl. ‘What do you want? Why have you brought us into your illusion? The war is over, and you should surrender since you don’t have the men or experiments to beat us!’

He sighs heavily. “You’re right about that, alpha Misha. I don’t have the men to beat your pack and take over your territory, but fear not—that isn’t why I have brought you into this illusion. I took you here to make you pay: an eye for an eye, if you may.”

‘An eye for an eye?’ I question.

Tank smirks. “Yes, that’s right.”

Faster than I can react, Tank moves. It happens so quickly that I can’t keep up with him. The man is like lightning materializes and grabs Josie in his arms to tip up her chin with skilled fingers.

“Well, aren’t you a beauty? Too bad your Alpha has to pay,” with that, he k****s my mate, and my body goes cold when I see the color of Josie’s skin turn into a sickly grey. Then, once Tank releases her, he smirks in my direction. “Ten days, and then your mate will wither and die. This is the price you have to pay for murdering my son, Blaze.”
