My Jealous Alpha Stepbrother -
Chapter 143
Josie
As promised, Sky meets ut at a restaurant that belongs to a hotel outside our territory. Misha and I are both surprised to discover he is a kid.
Well…
Sky is a teenager, but still. We thought he would be older since Elijah told us he was powerful. Though, it seems age got nothing to do with that. Sky is powerful regardless of his age; I can feel it.
“Ah, you guys must be Josie and Misha. Please have a seat.” Sky says when he lays his eyes on us and gestures for us to sit. He isn’t wearing a smile. I get the feeling he doesn’t do that a lot.
“Thank you,” Misha pulls out a chair for me before sitting down himself. He isn’t smiling, either. “Are you Sky Howler?”
“That would be me,” Sky answers without taking his hazel eyes off me. I don’t think he is checking me out. No, he is assessing the harm the curse has caused my body. “Hmm, interesting. How many days have passed since you were cursed, Josie?”
“Two of them,” I tell him, and I grow slightly worried when his lips part without a sound coming out. “Why?”
“Just curious,” Sky replies, and then he actually smiles. It’s tiny and dark, though. Not charming at all. “I can lift the curse from you, Josie,” he looks at Misha then. “But it will cost you.”
Misha growls. “Cost me?”
“Mhm,” Sky lifts his coffee cup to his lips, sips on it, and then sets it down. He is calm even though Misha is furious. “I will take over as the new Alpha of the Howler pack. It’s my birthright, and I would be excited should our packs not be at war.”
“Ah,” Misha sighs. “You want me to announce peace between our packs and forget the bloodshed before you help us?”
“Yes,” Sky smiles mischievously. “Glad to see we have an understanding. Now, will you accept or reject my proposition?”
Misha frowns. “I can’t say no, and you know it. I might hate your pack and everything it stands for, but” his expressive eyes touch mine. “My mate is more important than my pride as an Alpha. I can forget about the war and my lost men if you help me cure Josie.”
“Excellent,” Sky reaches out his hand and nods at it. “Take my left hand, Josie, and you,” he is now speaking to Misha. “Take my right hand. I will channel your magic to help me remove the curse.”
“What?!” Misha hisses. “You can’t even do it alone and need my help and still dares to come with ultimatums?”
“Yes,” Sky arches an eyebrow. “You have a problem with that, mutt?”
Had Misha been in his wolf form, his hackles would have been raised to the maximum. He is practically already growling. “I’m pretty f*****g sure that you’re a hybrid too.”
“I am,” Sky smiles. “So yes, I’m also a mutt, but that doesn’t stop me from calling you a mutt. What I am doesn’t bother me; I’m just happy not to have dirty human b***d in my veins, but you? You’re all flustered from being called something like a mutt. It amuses me.”
I fight a smile when Misha growls at Sky. This demon hybrid is a character. He is special and an oddball for finding amusement in angering Misha. Still, I get the feeling he isn’t a bad person.
“Alright, whatever…” Misha holds his hand for Sky to take and then grumpily averts his eyes. “Let’s get this over with.”
I giggle, then take Sky’s other hand, and even though I’m mated to Misha, I’m lost in Sky’s eyes for a second. He is very… magnetic. Perhaps demons have a natural charm to them or something? I’m very drawn to him, which Sky doesn’t fail to notice.
“It’s common,” he says as if reading my mind. “I’m an incubus, and we insert l**t into females without even trying. It’s not as strong when a female is mated, but I bet you can feel it.”
“Oh,” I blush. “So that’s what it is.”
“Yeah,” Sky meets my eyes. “It’s too bad that you’re mated. You might not be my type, but you’re at least a full-blooded supernatural creature. I would rather have you as my mate than risk being mated to a human.”
I snort. “Dude, what is your problem with humans?”
He frowns. “They are weak.”
I dislike his answer, but I don’t argue. Sky is right. Humans are much weaker than us, yet it doesn’t feel right that the guy is so repulsed by them. Like geez. If I were the moon goddess, I would give him a human mate just to assert karma into the world.
“Let’s just get this curse lifted,” I squeeze Sky’s hand. “Ready to save my life whenever you two are.”
Misha’s expression softens, and then he turns to Sky. “So what do I do? Just focus on helping your magic with my power?”
“Yeah, just close your eyes and channel everything to me. I will take care of the curse in no time.”
Misha and I close our eyes. I’m unsure why I do it. I suppose it just feels right and relaxing. I can feel a stinging in my hand that spreads into my arm and then to the rest of my body. Is that Sky lifting the curse? There is a violent tingle in my body, and I giggle.
“It tickles…” I comment. “And hopefully, that’s a good sign.”
“It is,” Sky confirms and releases my hand. “You’re all cured.”
I open my eyes again and blink repeatedly. Misha is smiling at me, while Sky looks downright drained. Exhaustion colors his face, and there are dark circles underneath his pretty eyes.
“Are you alright?” I ask mostly because of obligation. I’m not Sky’s friend, but I was raised to be polite.
“Yeah, I just…” he clears his throat. “I don’t have a mate, and if I had been above the age of eighteen, doing this would drain my life force. But since I’m young, I can freely use my magic. It just tires me out.”
Misha arches an eyebrow. “Why can’t you freely use magic after the age of eighteen without it affecting your life force?”
“I don’t know. I think it’s a way for us incubuses to be forced to find our mates once we come of age, or at least force us to have s*x. That is the only logical explanation I have for it. An incubus is a s*x demon, but… if we have s*x with someone who isn’t our mate, they wither.”
“Sounds like a lonely life,” I blurt out in the heat of the moment and then catch myself when Sky faces me. “I mean! If you don’t find your mate, that is. Being a virgin for life doesn’t sound funny.”
Shit-shit-shit!
I’m only making it worse by talking!
To my relief, Sky doesn’t look offended. “Most incubuses don’t care if they steal the life force from the women they sleep with. I do, though, and I will wait for my mate… anyway, seeing we are done here, I will leave you guys alone.”
Sky gets up from his chair, but not without turning to face Misha one last time with serious eyes. “I hope you understand that by helping you lift this curse, you and I are officially at peace, Alpha Misha.”
Misha nods. “I might not like you, but yes, you and I are at peace. There is no longer an ongoing war between the Howler pack and the Grimfang pack as long as you are the Alpha.”
“Great,” Sky smiles faintly. “I wish you two good luck.”
After Sky leaves, Misha turns my way. “Looks like the war is finally over…” a smile curls his lips. “I like the new grey in your hair.”
I gasp. “That wasn’t removed?”
He chuckles. “I don’t think Sky could fix what has already happened, but don’t worry,” he reaches out a hand to curl some of my hair around his fingertip. “I like it. I like it a lot.”
My heart swells inside my chest, and I can no longer hold myself back from hugging Misha.
I get up from my chair and attack him even though people stare at us. We are inside a fancy hotel restaurant, yet I don’t care and straddle his lap while embracing him.
“It’s finally over! The war, the curse—we are at peace again! Gosh, I’m so relieved that I’m not dying!”
Misha chuckles and hugs me back. “Yes, it’s finally over… f**k, it feels so good to hold you and know you won’t die. I was barely keeping it together. I’m so relieved.”
I lean back to smile at my mate and take in his handsome features. Misha is a looker, and I’m so happy he is mine. So delighted that we have a daughter. So blessed that I won’t die. So thrilled that we will get to spend the rest of our days together.
My lips form a big smile. “There are no words for how much I love you. You know that, right?”
Misha’s odd-colored eyes glimmer beautifully, and his lips curve into a big smile that probably matches mine. “I feel the exact same way. I love you, Josie. More than you could possibly know.”
Happiness blossoms in my heart, and I lean in to k**s my mate. Finally, our life together without war can begin; I can’t wait.
I want to spend every day with my mate, daughter, and family.
Life is truly a gift.
