My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1009
After I said my piece, I walked out. Hugo happened to come by with a truck, when he saw me he said, "Miss Reid, you want to head over to the attractions right? Let's go together then!"
I ran up to him and said, "Uh-huh, sorry to trouble you."
So I got into the truck with him.
Sometimes, I wished I led a simple life. Hugo and I talked about the project along the way. He said, "We will be quite busy for the next couple of days, and as you've just arrived, it may take a while to adjust. We sometimes stay on until midnight, and clock in early the next day."
I thought for a moment and said, "It takes an hour to drive here from the city. Going back and forth each day takes up a lot of time."
He nodded and said with a smile, "Yes, indeed, that's why there is temporary housing here. But tonight will be fine, after accompanying Mr. Roberts and the clients for dinner, we'll just exchange some documents and that will be it."
After stopping the truck at the attractions site, he took me directly to the hotel restaurant. On the way, he briefly introduced and explained to me the current issues they were facing.
I probably didn't sleep well last night. After entering the hotel, I found a place to sit down to wait and ended up but dozing off.
Fortunately, Hugo woke me up in time and said, "Don't doze off now, in just a moment we will need to welcome Mr. Roberts' guests."
I nodded and followed him out. We waited at the entrance of the hotel lobby, and soon Hendrix and Rowane arrived.
Perhaps it was because of the harsh things I said, but Hendrix didn't even look my way.
A black Bentley appeared at the entrance of the hotel. It came to a halt, and a kind-looking old man, around the age of 70, greeted us.
"Hendrix, I haven't seen you for a long time. I almost didn't recognize you!" The old man said, his voice deep and charming.
Hendrix smiled and gestured him into the hotel before saying, "I have been busy all these years, so I don't have time to visit you, Grandpa. I'm really sorry."
As I followed next to Hugo I asked, "Do you know him?"
Hugo nodded and said, "That is Ziglar Attwood, a respected peer from Asherton. However, the old man keeps a low profile. He bought a piece of land in Lancille Village and lives a mundane life, but he has a high standing in certain social groups. All the respectable people in Asherton are afraid of him, but respect him nonetheless."
Attwood?
Curious, I asked further, "Are there many with the surname Attwood in Asherton?"
He shook his head. "Not many, only the Attwood family. Why do you ask?"
I shook my head. I remembered the incident at the bar. It explained Oscar Hathaway's giving in to Naomi.
That meant that the old man Naomi mentioned was likely Ziglar.
We walked through the lobby and entered the dining room. After we sat down, the waiter brought them some soup as an appetizer.
The old man was happy to see that there was a table full of people sitting with him. He looked at Rowane, who sat beside Hendrix and said, "Little Hendrix, maybe you should introduce these people to me." Hendrix smiled and said, "Of course. It'll be my pleasure."
He started the introductions with Rowane. Before he could say much, the old man interrupted, "When your grandfather called me last time, he said that your wife's surname was Reid, and was raised by Carol Reid. Why is this young lady's name Zanes?"
Rowane rose to her feet and smiled brightly. "Mister Attwood, my surname is Zanes. You can call me Rowane!"
