What the heck!

I frowned in irritation, "If you want to climb, do it alone. It's getting late. I should go back. I still have work to do."

He said preposterously, "Mr. Milton mentioned that you will need to cooperate no matter what, but it seems that you're not taking this seriously."

I sucked in my breath and glared at the two of them, speechless.

Burying the urge to scream, I put down the bag and looked up at the tree. It looked to be about 3 or 4 meters. I couldn't help but let out a sigh.

It was true that I could do this. When I was in Hovell, Aaron always said that my petite frame gave me an advantage, because even the higher branches wouldn't break under my weight.

Aaron was particularly fond of coaxing me to pick fruits from trees, especially those that he wasn't able to reach. He would stand under the tree with a basket while I dropped them one by one, and promised to catch me if I ever fell.

I guess luck was usually on my side because I've never fallen when I used to climb trees when I was younger. Nowadays, tree climbing was a rare activity.

When I brought Anne back to Novell with me, I planted a pear tree in the courtyard and the pear tree grew rather tall. Every time Anne wanted to eat some, I would always climb up and pick some pears for her. I didn't even know that Anne had told Hendrix all these things.

Seeing that I was staring blankly at the tree, Rowane taunted me saying, "Miss Reid, if you can't do it then let's forget it!"

Hendrix simply looked at me calmly.

I figured that these two people here may be rather bored. Thus thinking, I hoisted myself onto the branches and started climbing.

In order to survive, I did an ample amount of exercise while I was in the mountains of Myanway. My arm strength had grown quite a bit.

When I got partway up the tree, I looked down at the two of them and said, "Please hand the bag over!"

Hendrix handed me the empty bag in his hand and looked at me. He said softly, "Don't fall down. Be careful!"

"Fine, thanks!" I took the bag from his hand and shifted my body to pick the fruits.

After all, this climb wasn't hard, and the fruits did look rather tantalizing. It should taste delicious.

After picking up a few juicy pears, I shifted the bag in my hands, but it was difficult for me to move. So, I squatted down and handed the bag to Hendrix. Then I got ready to climb down.

"Ah! Snake!" A sudden cry gave me a scare and I slipped. I fell off the branch.

In the back of my mind, I hoped that there would be no sharp objects on the ground, or it would be quite a scene.

I braced myself for the pain of a big impact, but instead, I felt something squeeze my waist. I looked down, stunned.

I blinked at Hendrix's handsome face and let loose a sigh of relief.

Then I remember what made me slip. I scrambled out of Hendrix's arms and put some distance between us, "Where is the snake?"

Since the time I saw that snake in the Myanway forest, my fear of snakes had intensified.

Hendrix's attention was also diverted. He looked at Rowane and asked, "Where is the snake?"

Rowane froze for a moment before coming back to her senses. Panicking, she pointed at the spot beside her feet.

When I saw that where she pointed was near to me, so I subconsciously stepped back a little, but when I looked down, there was nothing.

Puzzled, I looked up at her and asked in confusion, "Are you kidding me, Miss Zanes?"

She shook her head innocently. "No, I really saw it. It's really here. If you don't believe me, you can see for yourself!"

I couldn't help but feel a little fearful. I looked over to Hendrix, who moved forward to take a look. His eyebrows knitted together. He looked at Rowane darkly and said, "You can't recognize a snake?"
