My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1041
Instantly, the noise outside receded to a dull hum, and I stared blankly at him in the dark for a while.
He did not say anything, just hugged me and just patted me gently on the back, lulling me to sleep with peace of mind.
I was already exhausted so it didn't take long for me to fall asleep. I slept through the night.
When I woke up the next day, it was bright outside the tent. It had rained all night that even the morning sun looked wet and humid.
I looked around instinctively checking that there was no one else around. For a brief moment, I felt dazed.
That man came and went without a single trace. If it weren't for the ear plugs in my ears, I would have thought last night was a hallucination!
I had a bit of a headache. Try as I might, I couldn't find the energy to leave the tent. Naomi came in and saw me lying down with my eyes opened. Concerned, she asked, "What's wrong? You're not feeling well?"
I shook my head and regretted it immediately, "My head... hurts!" I managed to croak out. My throat was terribly hoarse.
Oh no! I thought. I might be having a fever.
Hearing that my voice, she frowned and put her hands on my forehead. She said in surprise, "Why is your head so hot? You must be having a fever." Then, she went out. I could hear her telling the others, "Let's hurry up and pack up. We need to go to Asherton. Arianna has a fever. She is burning up!" I wanted to say something, to tell them not to fuss but my throat hurt so much that I just gave up.
Hendrix came into the tent. His gaze was dark as he glanced at me. Putting his hand on my forehead, he frowned and said, "You have a fever!"
Naomi followed behind him and said, "Mr. Roberts, why don't you take her to the base of the mountain. There is a clinic over there. She needs a doctor" Hendrix nodded and picked me up. I had a massive migraine pounding through my head. I knew that it was useless to argue with them, so I didn't protest. Hendrix and I went straight to the base of the mountain, followed by the others behind.
My terrible migraine did not subside. After a while, I fell into unconsciousness and went back to sleep. It felt like my whole body was floating.
As I drifted in and out of consciousness, nightmares plagued me. Nothing I did could wake me up from them.
In my delirious state, I thought I saw a person standing next to me. It was Hendrix. I wanted to reach out to hold him, but I couldn't reach him no matter how hard It tried.
In my dreams, after trying a few times, I broke down. My emotions were all over the place and I started to cry.
I felt someone holding me and talking to me, but I couldn't make out what was said.
I felt like I was wrapped in cotton, stuck behind the glass. The feeling of being unable to communicate with the outside world was dreadful. After several times, I found that I could not open my mouth, much less speak, so I gave up.
After that, I began to fall deeper into my dreams. Terrible dreams, beautiful dreams, and vague dreams, as if I was going through all of them at once.
Some scenes and emotions felt so real I could taste them. I couldn't tell what was a dream and what was reality.
I didn't know how much time passed. When I opened my eyes again, I saw four white walls surrounding me. It was a hospital ward.
As I tried to gather my scattered thoughts, I realized my throat was dry and painful. I needed water.
But my body refused to move. Every shift made soreness radiate throughout my joints.
"She's awake, Arianna is awake!" Naomi's familiar voice could be heard.
She ran to my bedside, held me, and said with excitement and relief, "God, you finally woke up. You almost scared me to death!"
I tried to speak, but I couldn't utter a single word. All I could do was point at the glass of water.
