I blinked, bewildered. I had been so focused on my intentions that I forgot to look at my situation differently. I never thought about getting along with him as friends. I only expected to part as strangers. Seeing that I was lost in thought, Naomi gave me a nudge. "Arianna, have you ever thought about it? Perhaps it's you who is overthinking the problem. Among two people, living a peaceful and stable life would be more than enough. No matter what happened to each other, our lifespan is quite long. If a little conflict can separate two people, what will happen to everyone in this world?"

"In fact, all married couples have disagreements. But eventually, with a little work, those problems can be overcome. My grandfather often says that if the electrical appliances are faulty, they should be exchanged for a better one. That's because those are just things. No matter how you hit or break them, they are the same. But people are different. Would you replace someone you love just because of a small problem? Can you imagine how many people would need to be replaced in our lifetime if we followed that principle? Moreover, can we guarantee that the person who replaced the previous one will be better than the one we had at first? They won't be the same!"

I contemplated her words. Naomi was right. After a pause, I said, "You are right, but not completely. It's not that Hendrix and I wanted to change our relationship. However, I agree that no matter what will happen in the future, I will not avoid him or treat him as a stranger anymore. I can at least be friendly to him!"

Hearing this, she smiled in triumph and said, "That's right. No more running from your troubles. The best solution is to face it."

That said, she handed me the prepared dishes and said, "Come on, help me carry them out!"

I carried them out to the dining table. Hendrix got up to help bring out the dishes and utensils.

So he really did use Sebastian as an excuse to come here and eat a free meal.

Naomi was good at cooking and Sebastian seemed to like her very much. They didn't look like a man and a woman who had just fallen in love with each other, but more like good friends who had been with each other for a long time.

At least that's what I thought of Sebastian's impression of Naomi.

Since they cooked, Hendrix and I volunteered to

clean up and wash the dishes.

In the kitchen.

I didn't know how to get along with Hendrix. Naomi said that I should treat him like a friend. But with so much history between us, all the quarrels and silence, all the sweet and warm memories, I just didn't know how to act.

Honestly, I was partly at fault. I have never cared to understand him better, all my feelings for him seemed to have remained the same as when I first met him.

"What are you thinking about?" His voice vibrated into my ears. I retracted my thoughts and shook my head slightly.

I replied, "Nothing. I'm not thinking about anything!"

He took a plate from me and looked at me seriously. "Do you like Sebastian very much?"

What? My attention was distracted by Sebastian and Naomi bantering in the living room. I shook my trance-like state away.

All of a sudden, I realized that Hendrix must have misunderstood me. Did he think I was looking at that warm and sweet scene with jealousy?

Looking at him sideways, I saw his dark eyes staring at me dully, and I switched into my playful mode. I nodded and said teasingly, "Well, yeah. Sebastian is a cool and handsome man. Any woman would be lucky to meet him in her life."
