My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1134
After walking for a while, Andrea sat down on the public bench. She looked at Hendrix and smiled sweetly, "Hendrix, take a rest!"
Both of us remained silent in the face of her talkativeness. We sat at the town square for a while when Andrea suddenly thought of something and tugged on Hendrix. She said quickly, "Miss Reid, wait for us here, we will be right back!"
After that, she dragged Hendrix away!
I didn't bother chasing after them. I sat there and watched some old folks dancing at the square. I should have been happy, but I couldn't bring myself to smile.
My phone rang. Fishing it out of pocket, I looked at the caller ID and saw an unknown number from Jarold City. I wondered who it was as I answered the call.
From the other end of the phone came Anne's voice, "Mommy, are you still at work? Why is it so noisy behind you?"
I was stunned. I suddenly remembered that Anne would call me every night. My thoughts focused on her question and I replied, "Ah, I just finished dinner so I was taking a stroll. I'm not at work."
She said in a soft voice, "Mom, you must rest. Don't be too tired. Mr. Roberts went to see you today. Have you seen him?"
I smiled and nodded at her sweetness. "Yes, who are you at home with, Anne?" Hendrix wasn't in the villa, so he should have asked a nanny to take care of her.
"I'm at grandma's house. If Mr. Roberts isn't at home, I'll stay with them. Mommy, do you want to talk to grandma? She misses you, just like me."
I was stunned for a moment. When I was about to refuse, Valerie's voice came from through. "Arianna, are you okay over there? It's been getting cold recently. Wear more clothes and come back when you finish your work. It's going to be Thanksgiving soon. Are you coming back with Hendrix?"
Maybe it was because of the phone, but her voice sounded older.
I hesitated, "Well, I don't know. I'll have to wait until Thanksgiving before I know for sure." After a pause, I said, "Thank you for taking care of Anne for me."
From the other end came her nervous laughter. "You silly child, we are your parents, taking care of our own granddaughter is a given. Why do you need to thank us? Arianna, we're getting old, and we'll won't be here long. I know you hate us, but please my child, you have to look forward to the future."
I pressed my lips together, unable to answer.
Anne was pleading to talk to me, so she took away the mobile phone and began to tell me about the interesting things that happened to her that day at school. I listened to her chatter, a joyful feeling in my heart.
After chatting for a while, I heard her yawning. I reminded her lovingly, "Anne, it's getting late. Let's talk tomorrow, shall we?"
She agreed, saying softly, "Okay Mother, I'll go to bed now and call you tomorrow. You should go back early too. Don't stay up late. It's not good for your health. Promise you'll to go back early?"
I nodded and smiled. "Okay, good night!"
I looked at the phone in a daze after the call ended. When people reach a certain age, they face some choices. Very few people would choose to wander blindly on their own, all their lives. People need a place to call home and enjoy life with relatives and friends.
