Walking downstairs, I did not look at Hendrix, and softly said, "Okay." Then, I went into the kitchen. The housekeeper had already prepared a table full of breakfast on the dining table. Because everyone at home had a different schedule, they ate their meals at different times too. Freya had mentioned it to me before that except Valerie and Pedro who would get up early, while the rest would eat at odd hours. Hence, I wasn't too surprised.

Valerie carried some of the breakfast to the living room, returned to the dining table, and looked at me, "This morning, the Reids called and asked for us to dine together tonight. Everyone knows that you are back, so they want to meet up."

I stuffed a piece of cake into my mouth and said vaguely, "Sure, I should also pay a visit to Mr. Reid."

Seeing that I was in a hurry to eat, she put the milk in front of me and said helplessly, "Slow down, what's the rush? The breakfast is all yours anyway. Tell me honestly, what's going on between you and Hendrix?"

I took a sip of milk and mumbled, "What do you mean by that?"

She clicked her tongue and said, "Come on. We are not blind. You didn't even look at him! And you came home by yourself yesterday. This has never happened before!"

I pursed my lips, "What were we like in the past?"

She sighed, "It's normal to quarrel, but we can see how well Mr. Roberts treats you. Don't be silly, live a good life with him, and don't pick a fight!"

I put down the milk, nodded, wiped my mouth and said, "I'm full!"

Valerie sighed slightly, but had no idea how to persuade me further.

I walked into the living hall and saw Hendrix and Pedro playing chess. I went straight upstairs and prepared to wake Anne and Freya up from their sleep. To my surprise, Pedro stopped me, "Arianna, I heard Mr. Roberts say that you're good at chess. Come and take a look at my pieces. I've already lost a few rounds."

I stood beside them and looked at the chessboard. Pedro was playing the white pieces, while Hendrix was playing the black pieces. Pedro only had one of his knights left. Even the last two bishops had been taken by Hendrix. Now, Hendrix's rooks were cornering Pedro's king, forcing him to retreat.

Judging from the pieces, Pedro had lost the game.

However, he had called me over to reduce the awkwardness. I looked directly at Hendrix, but didn't say anything.

After not seeing him for a few days, he seemed to be a little haggard, but he was still as handsome as ever.

When Hendrix caught my gaze, he raised his eyebrows but didn't say anything. He just looked at Pedro and said, "Mr. Moore, it's your turn!"

Pedro had no more moves. No matter which way he went, he would lose. So he simply got up, looked at me and said, "Arianna, you can have a look at what my next move should be. I'll go and see what delicious food your mother made this morning!"

After that, he got up and walked away. I was speechless. Obviously, Pedro wanted me to save his lousy battle!

I sat down and didn't move any pieces. Instead, I looked at Hendrix. Propping my chin, I asked, "What are you doing here?"

He frowned slightly and gave an irrelevant answer, "Why didn't you tell me that you returned to Jarold City?"

I looked down at the chessboard and moved his black rook away. Looking up at his helpless expression, I said, "Mr. Roberts, you're busy with so irony matters all day. I am afraid of disturbing you."

He pursed his lips and looked at the rook that had been moved by me. He sighed slightly and moved his attacking bishop away. Obviously, he was deliberately giving in to me.
