My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1214
After the meal, I drove straight home. As soon as I arrived home, Hendrix called me. He said in a low and restrained voice, "Have you reached home?"
I answered in affirmation and glanced at the time. It was already late in the afternoon, and he would be getting off work soon.
I couldn't help but ask, "Are you coming back soon?"
"Yes, I'll be back soon. Did you miss me?" His voice was as pleasant as ever, and I blushed a little.
I did not reply but asked instead, "What do you want to eat for dinner? I'll cook."
He thought about it seriously and said, "Can I eat you?"
This man...
Later I got another call, with no name displayed, I was baffled for a moment. Hesitatingly, I asked, "Is this Sonia's mother?"
The person on the other side of the phone responded, and she sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
After a moment's hesitation, I said, "Madam, I've said that I would do my best to help you. We haven't received the report from the police yet. Let's talk about it after the report comes out, okay?"
"Why didn't you receive the report? The police had already given us the autopsy results. You can just tell us if you don't intend to help us. You just wanted to delay it until Sonia's body was cremated, so that you can insist that Sonia committed suicide, right?" Sonia's mother was agitated, and there was an accusatory mistrust in her words.
I frowned upon hearing that. I really didn't know that Sonia's autopsy report was out. After a deep calming breath, I said, "Madam, calm down first. I really haven't seen the report yet. How about giving me some time to look at it first before we can discuss it. Would that be okay?"
After a moment of silence, the person on the other end of the line replied, "Okay!"
I felt a little mentally tired after hanging up the phone. Sometimes, it was not a good thing to be too kindhearted. I let out another sigh and called Evan. Fortunately, the call connected quickly.
"Hello, Mrs. Roberts!" Evan greeted me straightforwardly as usual.
I got straight to the point. "Evan, has Sonia's autopsy report come out?" "Yes. The police have ruled her death a suicide!"
"Okay," I said. "Are they sure?"
"Yes, the railing was broken by Sonia herself. Her medical history shows that she had seen a psychiatrist in the past and was diagnosed with some mental disorders. She had been thinking about suicide for a long time, but she was worried about her daughter and parents, so she never did."
I frowned at the last line, "Then why would she suddenly decide to commit suicide?"
Evan sighed. "She bought an accidental death insurance policy, which took effect last month. If her death was ruled an accident, the beneficiaries of that policy are her parents and daughters. With the compensation from our company, her family should have been able to live well, or at least they didn't have to worry about putting food on the table."
So Sonia had already planned everything before she jumped off the building.
However, she probably didn't expect that the police would investigate her death so carefully.
No wonder Sonia's mother suddenly called and asked me to save them. I guessed that she already knew about it.
I nodded and hung up the phone. Then I called
Sonia's mother. She sounded very anxious. I couldn't explain everything on the phone, so I could only tell her that I would visit the hospital tomorrow.
It was night by the time Hendrix got home.
At the dining table.
I was absent-mindedly adding food to his bowl, quiet. He looked at me, put down his cutlery and said, "Tell me. What's the matter?"
