The streets were crowded with people. Everyone was in a hurry, making my leisure walking seem a little out of place.

From time to time, people would give me strange looks.

I pursed my lips, automatically ignoring their gazes.

A beggar by the street caught my eye. It was not because I had not seen beggars before, but because the beggar looked familiar to me.

While hesitating, the beggar looked at me with his brows furrowed. He, who looked indifferent before, suddenly looked dumbstruck. Then, he let out a mirthless laugh while his eyes were on me.

That laugh instantly reminded me of who he was. Wasn't he the man who was beaten up by brawny men when Hendrix and I were leaving the casino that day?

How did he end up in such a state? He was actually a beggar on the street.

I knitted my brows. I didn't have much sympathy for people who gave up on themselves. I took a glance at him, before walking away.

As I walked down the street, I felt that someone was following behind me. I frowned and looked back. It was the beggar. With my brows still furrowed, I took out the small amount of money from my wallet and put them on the ground. I looked at him and said, "I don't have much cash on me. That's all I have. Take it and leave!"

He looked at me and giggled like a fool. He did not pick up the money on the ground.

I didn't know what he wanted, so I asked, "Do you think it's too little?"

He shook his head and smiled at me. It was not until I was impatient that he said, "Miss Reid, we know each other!!"

Of course we knew each other. Frowning while looking at him, I replied, "With this money, you won't starve. Stop gambling. Go and get a job."

I knew that it was probably useless to say such words to an incurable man like him, but I still said it.

He continued to laugh, before saying, "I don't want your money. My mother told me to thank you. You're a good person."

I couldn't help frowning again. "Your mother? Who is your mother?"

He thought for a moment and said, "My mother is my mother, who else could my mother be?"

I felt like I was given a riddle. Impatiently, I said, "What I mean is, how does your mother know me?"

He laughed and I felt cold all over. It made me scared. "My sister is Sonia!"

Sonia's name had been appearing so often for the past few days that I didn't need time to process when I hear it. I looked at him in a daze for a few seconds.

Only then did I speak, "You are Sonia's older brother?" The older brother had no bottom line or principles and gambling addiction.

He looked at me and continued to laugh mirthlessly. "Yes, I know my sister died from falling off Roberts Group's building. She died for unknown reasons just like that, and you only gave her 200,000 dollars. You guys can fool her so easily, but not me."

I looked at him, terror seizing me. "What do you want?"

He looked around and said, "Hendrix must care about you very much. I only have to kidnap you, and he will definitely give me a lot of money."

I was not surprised at the answer.

Looking at his pathetic face, I calmed down and said, "Your sister committed suicide. It has nothing to do with the company. If it weren't for her child's illness, we wouldn't even give her 200,000 dollars. If you dare to hurt me, you will go to jail!"
