My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1294
He raised his eyebrows and gently stroked the bridge of my nose. "Smart girl!"
After thinking for a while, I called Aaron, and it didn't take long before he answered the phone. I was a little surprised because I thought he would not pick up. After all, Yana had said that his phone was unreachable.
Still, after ringing a few times, he answered the phone. "Why did you suddenly call me? I thought you were so happy these days that you forgot about me."
I put my hand on my forehead and said with a smile, "I've been busy recently. Yana just called me and said that something happened to Mr. Reid. Are you all right?"
I could tell that he was frowning, even through the phone. "Why did she call you? No one needs to be involved in Uncle Charles' affairs. It's not that complicated. You don't have to worry about it." "Hm," I said, but could not help asking, "What's wrong with you and Yana?"
I'd always had a feeling that it wasn't just a simple fight.
"What else could it be? It's just a small matter. Do you have time tonight? Come out and have dinner with me. It's been too boring recently. No one talks to me."
Listening to his nonchalant yet faint voice, I nodded and said, "Okay, let's have dinner together."
"Okay, I'll give you the address later."
After that, he hung up the phone. I looked at Hendrix and said with a smile, "Let's go out for dinner tonight?"
He raised his eyebrows and asked, "Did you agree?"
I nodded.
He stopped talking.
It was his way of agreeing with me.
Someone knocked on the door. He responded, "Come in!" I had nothing much to do, so I went into the lounge to find a coat. It was cold lately.
"Mr. Roberts, this is the collective report sent by Evan today. I have printed it out, and there are some contracts for you to sign. I will bring them to the front desk tomorrow!" It was the secretary who spoke. Hendrix nodded and gave a mumble of agreement.
The atmosphere outside quieted down. I thought it was over and the secretary had left. After a while, the secretary suddenly spoke again, "Mr. Roberts, the Human Resources department asked me to give you a list of employees that are up for a promotion this year. Please take a look and if there's anything wrong with it, you can put a remark on the side."
"Okay!" He was still impassive.
A while later, I heard the sound of high heels retreating. I came out of the lounge, holding my coat. When I saw Hendrix writing in a file, I asked, "Are these documents meant to be done by today?" He nodded. "It's not much, let's go eat after we're done!"
I looked at the pile of documents and swallowed my words. I walked up to him and looked through the list left behind by his secretary. There were a few thousand names on there. I couldn't help but feel shocked.
"You have worked hard. There are so many details on this. How are you going to deal with this list of thousands up for a promotion?"
He glanced up and said, "Can you check it out for me? Circle out those who haven't been here for more than 3 years. As for the others, I'll just promote them according to the usual rules."
I looked at him and said, "Isn't that too hasty? I see some employees haven't been with the Roberts Group for a long time, but they are very capable and have excellent performances. For such people, shouldn't you consider giving them a promotion too?"
Hendrix raised his eyebrows and said, "I'll leave it to you!"
I pressed my lips into a thin line. "I..."
"Do you think I still have the energy to go through that list after I deal with these?" He looked at me seriously. The meaning was obvious. He wanted me to help him deal with this.
