"Wife?" I was completely shocked.

It had only been a few months since lan had left, and yet, he was already married? It was the first time I had even met the woman whom he called his wife. Perhaps it was because of my self-esteem. I really couldn't accept the fact that a man who grew up together with me was married without even me knowing anything about it. I had an unpleasant expression on my face.

"Shocking, right?" As lan looked at me, the smile on his face widened, but his eyes remained calm. "It's understandable. I've known Silvia for almost a year now, and we received our marriage certificate two months ago. Can't actually say we made our decision too hurriedly, can you?"

He said it in a joking tone, but my heart instantly sank.

I knew that lan was still blaming me.

I remembered what he said about us growing distant from each other. We were childhood friends. However, I was too busy taking care of my personal matters that I had forgotten to ask about how he was doing.

"lan, you..." The words were at the tip of my tongue, but I didn't know how to continue.

I felt guilty about it. I turned away and didn't dare look at lan, but saw Silvia kindly smiling towards me instead. I forced a smile out of respect. Then I lowered her gaze and didn't dare say a word.

In Raiya's view, we were old friends reuniting with each other. She thought lan was joking, so she went along with him. "It doesn't matter actually even if your engagement was decided in a rush. Who can say for sure when it comes to love at first sight? My husband and I knew we were the one for each other after meeting for not long, and we're now living happily together. It's not much of a big deal as long as you two are happy!"

lan was taken aback by her honesty. A moment later, he regained his calmness and said, "I agree. It's just everyone's personal choice. No one is better off than anyone else."

I felt speechless as I could sense that there was some other meaning in lan's words, but I really couldn't bring it up when Raiya and Silvia were right in front of us. I really wanted to ask lan, "Where have you been? What happened to you?"

Even after mustering up my courage, I only managed to say, "You should come to my house for dinner some other day. Anne has been pestering me to have you accompany her all the time." "We'll see how it goes." Ian directly rejected my invitation. "I just started my own clinic. All the patients I treated before came back to me. I'm too busy. I think I won't have the time for now." lan refused to be close with me.

Every time this happened, I would think that lan blamed me for not caring enough about him. Not only that, he seemed to blame me for Monique's death.

Regardless, Monique was no longer here. I only had lan left, a person who had accompanied me for a long time. I couldn't bear to abandon our friendship just like that.

Her voice was gentle. Her elegance resembled a princess living in a castle. Her considerate personality made her even more special as if the two of them were meant for each other. Ian didn't insist further. We came to an agreement just like that.

All my inexplicable self-esteem issues and pettiness instantly subsided.

lan was right. Everything had happened a long time ago. What was important was that the woman next to him, Silvia, had a lovable character. She managed to control lan's temper with ease. At least, with her, lan wouldn't speak too harshly and totally fall apart with me at the moment.
