My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1593
I looked at Hendrix's innocent face and felt helpless, unable to refute him.
His worry was not based on nothing. We had so many accidents before because we were too obvious and loud with our actions. Hendrix just wanted me to be out of the public's sight when I was still pregnant. Eventually, I couldn't hold back my frustration. I threw a fit and said, "I guess you should announce your divorce with me to the public. I'll be completely safe then."
That was just my teasing, but Hendrix thought about it seriously. He then nodded solemnly and said, "Alright, I can consider it when it's necessary."
I was startled.
What was he considering?
I rolled my eyes at him and threw the documents back on the table, saying, "I won't sign it." Hendrix probably did not expect that I would refuse him. He frowned a little and was about to say something when someone knocked on the door.
Knock, knock....
Hendrix and I looked over in unison, seeing Evan and Estella standing by the door.
"Come in," Hendrix said.
Evan's sudden appearance surprised me a lot. I didn't care if I was in the company and greeted him informally, "Evan, when did you come back?"
Evan said indifferently, "I took the morning flight. I just came back to the office today."
With Evan around, Hendrix would not have to go back and forth between home and the company every day. Thinking that Hendrix could have more time to rest, the smile on my face widened. "You've been in Oakland for so long. Since you're back, you should return home and visit your family."
Not long after Evan's wife had given birth, he was sent to Oakland. Since Hendrix didn't know how to care for his subordinates, as his wife, I had to do this on his behalf.
"Yes, Mr. Roberts offered me a half-day leave. I went home before coming here," Evan said. At the mention of his family, a rare smile blossomed on his face.
Hendrix?
I turned around and looked at Hendrix with doubt, thinking, "Could he really be this kind? Wasn't he a workaholic?"
Hendrix proudly lay back against the chair. He continued on the main topic. "From now on, Evan will be my personal assistant, while Estelle is yours. Take her with you even when you go shopping."
I had my face full of confusion. What kind of a move was this? By making his own fan girl stay with me, was he sure that Estella would be helping me instead of creating trouble for me?
But before I could even refuse, Estella and Evan said "yes" at the same time and retreated from the room.
"What's going on?" I questioned Hendrix as soon as the door was closed, inspecting him with my eyes squinted. "You wanted me to sign this paper, and now you're ordering Estella to follow me around. What exactly are you planning?"
Hendrix spread out his hands and denied it. "Who told you that Estella's role is to keep an eye on you?"
I gave him a pretentious laugh. "If she's not supposed to spy on me, are you telling me that she's here to protect me?"
Although Estella was our employee, I was sure she was as fragile as glass. Or else, she wouldn't have lost her memory with just a slight bump, I thought sarcastically.
Hendrix snorted and pushed the document back to me with a smile on his face, saying sarcastically, "I persuaded her into becoming your personal assistant only after noticing you staring at Estella several times. I know that women like to look at pretty girls. I'm very open-minded. Although your taste is somewhat poor, since you like her, I can only go according to your wishes."
I looked at his face filled with self-righteous thoughtfulness, and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
B*stard, what was he saying? And what was with his smug grin?
Hendrix thought that I had my eyes on Estella?
