I didn't know what Hendrix had told Wylie, but after Wylie left, she didn't return to the study, leaving her documents and computer.

I vaguely guessed that he'd thought that Wylie and I had come up with the plan to find Irvin in Mesville, and therefore had proceeded to vent his anger at her. We were not allowed to interact anymore after that. I didn't see Hendrix all night. I sent a message to Wylie, and found that her phone was in her briefcase. She'd left in a hurry in the afternoon. It seemed that Hendrix had done his magic.

After putting Anne to bed, I leaned on the sofa, studying while waiting for Hendrix to come back.

The conversation that afternoon wasn't pleasant. After a few hours, both of us had calmed down, and could sit down and have a chat.

I was the best candidate to look for Irvin, but Dr. Jules had reminded me I was still in my first trimester. I was not suitable for a long journey, so I could only hope that Hendrix could think of a winwin solution. But I forgot that pregnant women were also easily exhausted. Not long after I was in the living room,

I fell asleep on the sofa in a daze.

In a trance, I heard some noise in the corridor outside. I woke up and opened the door to have a look. There was only the empty corridor, brightly lit. There was no one else.

Maybe it was my hallucination. I stood at the door for a while, and then went back in. This time, I slept soundly.

I woke up the next day in my bedroom. Looking at the quilt I was covered in, I frowned, got up and went downstairs. There was no one in the living room, but breakfast was put on the table with a note on it. "Mrs. Roberts, breakfast is ready for you. If it's gone cold, I'm afraid you'll have to heat it up for yourself." Minnie's handwriting looked like she'd left in a hurry.

I wasn't a pampered child. I heated the food and ate it.

It wasn't long before I realized that things weren't that simple. Usually, when Anne found out that I was awake, she would come for me. However, I didn't see anyone today. I searched the back courtyard and still, there wasn't anyone. Not only that, the other servants of the villa were also gone. The villa that was bustling with activity the day before had suddenly become an empty house.

I was worried about Anne. After a while, when no one came to inform me of her whereabouts, I couldn't sit still anymore, and went upstairs to find my phone to make a call. I searched everywhere. Other than the landline on my desk, I didn't find any other communication tools.

Stupefied for a few seconds, I suddenly realized that I was grounded by Hendrix.

The noise from the previous night was none other than Hendrix bringing people in to collect things, to cut off my contact with the outside world. He had done it very ruthlessly, even cutting off the Internet, essentially turning the computer into a pile of scrap metal.

I was furious and anxious. I immediately dialed Hendrix's number through the landline. Of course, this was definitely not because of my good memory. It would be a joke if I couldn't remember his number after ten years. I couldn't even remember the first three numbers of anyone else's phone.

Hendrix answered immediately, acting as if nothing had happened. "You're awake?"

"Where did you take Anne?" I hated his controlling, bossy behavior, and tried my best to hold back so that I would not lose my temper. "You took my phone away, didn't you? Hendrix Roberts, you're really disappointing."

I thought that Hendrix would be irritated, but he directly changed the topic as if he didn't hear it. "There will be bodyguards going in every hour to check for your safety, do tell them if you need anything. Don't try to borrow a phone from them, though. I will make sure that they won't be able to talk for the rest of their lives if you try to communicate. You'd better think about those poor bodyguards before you do anything. Don't mess around."
