Hendrix did not answer. He kept silent and turned to the bathroom. Soon, I could hear him showering, indicating that our conversation had ended in failure.

I was still worried. I sat on the sofa waiting for him, and I wanted an explanation.

Hendrix showered quickly and came out after fifteen minutes. He was wrapped in a bathrobe, and his hair was dripping. Seeing that I was still awake, he sighed and sat down beside me. He reached out to hug my shoulders and pulled me into his arms.

"Haven't you always wanted to know why I didn't attend Grandpa's funeral?"

I struggled out of his arms instantly and looked up at him blankly. "Why?"

Besides his grandmother, Dalton was one of the few elders who had treated me well. It was always regrettable that Hendrix had not attended his funeral.

"Do you know that Naomi's parents and my parents died in a car accident?" Hendrix asked.

"Yeah." I nodded. "Naomi mentioned it to me. It was an accident. Does it have anything to do with this?"

"Yes." Hendrix nodded and his gaze grew dark. He looked straight ahead and said, "You only know that they were all car accidents, but you didn't know that they died in the car accidents in Ucrebury and Asherton on the same day. The day before their accident, they also talked about the same business project. Two car accidents that seemed to have no connection, had been secretly planned to get rid of the scapegoats."

Frowning, I could not help feeling surprised. I was stunned for a moment before asking, "But what does this have to do with Grandpa?"

Hendrix took a deep breath and asked, "Why do you think my parents became the scapegoats so easily?"

On the day of the car accident, Hendrix was supposed to be in his parents' car, but Dalton had asked him to stay. Three hours later, Hendrix's parents died in a car accident on the highway from Ucrebury to Jarold City. At the same time, Hendrix was taken to see an old friend of Dalton's. Later, he learned that the friend was the murderer's mother.

However, both car accidents had been perfectly planned. The results of the police investigation showed that it was only an accident. The people who should have paid the price for breaking the law got away scot-free with Hendrix's parents' passing, but the real culprit was not punished.

Hendrix continued, "A week before the accident, Grandpa began to contact that friend. It was also because of this that my parents were not on guard. They thought that the family was friendly with us and wanted to help our business, therefore they signed the document without hesitation. Grandpa knew that there was something wrong with the family, but he didn't tell my parents the truth. He was also one of the accomplices."

From the last word, I could even hear Hendrix gritting his teeth with hatred.

I didn't expect that Dalton, who had always been dignified and righteous, had done these things before. I frowned. "So you're in a hurry to go further, because you want to compete with your enemy as soon as possible, and avenge your parents?"
