My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1675
As he spoke, he sat down with us.
Freya scoffed at his words and nudged me with her elbow. She sneaked a glance at me and thought to herself, "Look at what he had done. He came without an invitation, but he's acting like the host in the blink of an eye. He's not easy to deal with!"
I smacked my lips and signaled her not to act rashly.
The one we were facing was a poisonous snake, whose hands would not be stained with blood when he slaughtered.
"How can I help you, Mr. Gavlin?" I smiled and acted like a housewife who didn't know anything.
The servant brought warm tea and Eddison took a sip. He replied while looking around the house, "I've been acquainted with Mr. Reid for so many years, this is my first time to visit the Reid Manor. Not bad, it's his style..."
I pursed my lips and the corner of my mouth twitched awkwardly. He was obviously an enemy, but when the words came from his mouth, he looked like a good friend that we hadn't met for years. "Where is Mr. Reid?" Eddison suddenly asked.
I answered, "He went on a business trip. I heard that he had a few supervision duties in his subordinate's city. He can't come back in a short time."
Eddison heard my response and then laughed. "Oh, right, that's it! How could I forget such a matter of importance? Mr. Reid is our role model. He's always dedicated to work. I'm embarrassed that I'm not as hardworking as him!"
"Well, with you being here to be in charge, my godfather and the others can start to work and shoulder their responsibilities comfortably. Everyone has their role. You don't have to humble yourself." I tried hard to smile, but I couldn't see why Eddison had come.
Eddison nodded in agreement as he heard this. "Right. Everyone has their roles. It's ideal. As long as everyone does what they should do, everything will develop in a good way. I dare not comment on anything else. Take me and Mr. Reid for example. Although the division of job scopes is different and there are also some personal grudges, we are working hard for the people. For so many years, there have been no mistakes made. Each of us has been promoted. We live all our lives just for peace of mind..."
The way Eddison put his words made it hard for me to act dumb.
Charles and Eddison didn't like each other. Everyone in Jarold City knew that, but they didn't interfere with each other and became independent figures in their respective fields. His words of "everyone has thei roles" were actually to remind us to not interfere in things, and not getting into trouble.
However, I wasn't sure whether Eddison wanted me to forgive Hendrix, or he wanted me to be a lobbyist for him, to lead Hendrix to let go of his past grievances.
If it was the latter, it proved that he came here for only one purpose. He wanted to test whether Hendrix and I really had fallen out with each other.
Since Eddison didn't say it clearly, I continued to pretend to be confused. "Yes, it is true that Jarold City could develop to such a stage because of my godfather and your generation. Young people like us will never be able to catch up with you in our lifetime."
Eddison raised his eyebrows and stared at me with his shrewd eyes. He spoke faintly, "I'm very optimistic about the business prospects of Roberts Group. Mr. Roberts is also a rare talent. In the future, he will be a leading figure in developing Jarold City's economy, so he should broaden his horizons. The small grievances in the past should be put aside as well. Only in this way can he grow, right?"
Hendrix's parents died a tragic death, even his unborn sibling had been sacrificed. How could this be a small grievance? How could Eddison say that so easily?
Eddison phrased it like a small thing, and I understood Hendrix's perseverance in an instant.
