My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1698
"What's wrong? Did Irvin find your child?" Aaron asked.
I kept quiet. Before I could respond to him, I pressed the call button.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed cannot be reached. Please call again later."
I repeatedly called him several times, but the result was the same.
Throwing the phone aside, I sat down on the sofa dejectedly, looking up at the ceiling and sinking into deep thoughts.
Irvin had called at the right time. Perhaps it was only then that he had the chance to get access to a phone. However, he'd just said a few words, and suddenly he'd been cut off. Perhaps someone broke in and disconnected the phone.
However, there was no doubt that Irvin was still alive.
Although I still did not know their motive for bringing Irvin to Mesville, it was good that they didn't hurt him.
But why was Irvin so opposed to me going to Mesville?
As he told me the news about my child, yet at the same time, he tried his best to bear this responsibility alone. It seemed that he had divided himself into two personalities?
Until now, Irvin was the only person who knew the whereabouts of my child. But he'd still insisted on taking risks, even though he'd known that there were too many of them. What was he planning?
Perhaps there was something that made Irvin more worried than my missing child, which was why he had stopped me from going to Mesville.
I thought that maybe, I was coming close to the truth.
If I was correct, then the only reason Irvin forbade me to head to Mesville was that those people were after me.
Maybe that bodyguard would know something.
Thinking of this, I clenched my fists and rushed to the basement again. Aaron didn't know what was going on, but he still followed me.
The basement had been cleaned out, but the smell of blood still lingered in the air. The upper part of the bodyguard's torso was wrapped in bandages, and he was lying on the wooden bed, breathing heavily. Most of Aaron's men had gone out, leaving only one guard inside.
"Leave," I ordered.
The subordinate glanced at Aaron behind me, and went out after he was positive that it was safe.
"Aaron, you go out too. I need to speak to him alone," I said again.
There was no response. I guessed that Aaron was worried about me, so I comforted him, "This guy is going to die. What can he do to me?"
After a moment of silence, Aaron was convinced. He walked out and closed the door after him.
The room was completely silent. I stepped forward and looked down at him. My voice was cold and indifferent. "Do you want to leave here?"
The unconscious bodyguard suddenly opened his eyes, and the next second, he struggled to sit up from the wooden bed.
As expected, even after being stabbed by a knife and tormented for such a long time, his weakened form just now was just an act.
"We can make a deal," I said calmly. "But I have a condition. Tell me, how is my child?"
"Miss Reid, although we are willing to die for anything, we won't mistreat a newborn that's barely a month old." The bodyguard smiled, making his whole face look a little menacing.
I couldn't believe his words completely, since he was such a cruel and merciless person. However, with Irvin's witness, I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
I believed in this guy. I believe that they wouldn't hurt my son.
Even so, my baby was still too young. How could it be good to wander around with a group of strangers?
At the thought of this, my heart ached, as if an invisible hand were squeezing it.
