However, Irvin had only said a few words. Obviously, they had not gained the upper hand, and Hendrix must have tried to resist. Still, it was not clear who would emerge victorious in the end.

Hendrix's tight muscles relaxed instantly. He sighed deeply and held me tightly. "You're impossible."

Somehow, my nose scrunched up. I looked at him, and my eyes started tearing up. Just as I was about to speak, something suddenly occurred to me. I broke away from his arms and ran back to the living room. "Wait a minute."

Hendrix was very cautious. He crept to the door, leaned against it, and listened for a while. Then, after confirming that he had not been discovered, he returned.

"Hendrix, come here." I sat by the bed with the laptop in my arms, and Hendrix eased in beside me.

I clicked on the video and placed the laptop on Hendrix's lap. "This is our son. He has your nose."

I had been looking forward to this for a long time. Although I'd imagined that Hendrix and our child would've met face to face, this was the best we could do for now.

Hendrix stared at the screen, and a flurry of emotions flashed across his eyes. A few seconds later, he turned around to pull me into an embrace. "Don't worry, our baby is a gift given to us by God. I won't let him stay with them for long."

With Hendrix's reassurance, I could finally feel at ease. However, when I'd thought of Irvin's attitude, my heart tightened, and I asked solemnly, "Have you been alright these few days? Is your family okay?" Hendrix's expression suddenly darkened and pushed me away. His gaze was as cold as ice, and his voice was emotionless. "Now you're worried. Why didn't you think about this when you were kidnapped?" He hadn't said such harsh words to me for a long time. Even when he'd been jealous of Irvin, he hadn't spoken in such a tone. For a moment, I was flustered and didn't know how to respond. In the end, I could only lower my voice and be vulnerable. "I'd gotten too worked up at that time and couldn't calm down.
