My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1722
There were too many people who would want to kill me in this place. Even if I knew that I didn't have much time, I didn't want to die suddenly. I forced myself to call for help again and again. "Is anybody here? Someone..."
When Aaron came in with the doctors and nurses, I had struggled to the bedside and almost fell off the bed.
"What happened? Didn't I tell you not to move? What are you doing?"
With the last bit of my strength, I grabbed Aaron's arm tightly and looked up at the IV fluid hanging near my head. "The drug, someone changed..."
Before I finished my sentence, I fell into Aaron's arms and lost consciousness once again.
It was three hours after I woke up. I felt like I had recovered a lot of strength.
Seeing that I had woken up, Hendrix immediately moved forward. It had only been a few days since we last met. His chin was covered in black stubble and his eyes sockets were deep as if he had aged ten years.
"Are you awake? Do you want to eat something?" Hendrix's voice was a little hoarse. Perhaps it was because I was hallucinating, I could hear him sobbing.
"I'm not hungry." I said and reached out to touch his cheek. "You don't remember to take care of yourself."
Hendrix's eyes were wet, but the corners of his mouth were still smiling. "I'm fine. It's good that you're awake. Don't worry. The baby's whereabouts have been found. Don't worry. Just get better. Listen to Aaron and stay here."
"I'm much better." Perhaps Hendrix was my courage to face everything. I sat up on the bed and leaned against the headboard. My exhaustion and dizziness seemed to have been reduced by half, and I could see things clearly.
"Have you checked? Who came in secretly to change my IV fluid?" I asked Aaron.
"It's George, a doctor from the Cardiothoracic Department. Fortunately, Arianna, you were alert and scared him away, so he didn't succeed. We're investigating the rest of the doctors. These people are really sinister. They bribed a doctor who has worked here for more than a decade!" Aaron was a little jumpy. It seemed that he was going to make a big move.
I nodded without any objections. I had suffered a loss when I was giving birth. This day, I almost let them succeed again. I must never let this happen again.
"You just said that there is news about my baby's whereabouts?" I asked Hendrix again.
"Yes." Hendrix nodded gently. He held my face with his hand and tidied up my scattered hair. His voice was gentle, as if he was afraid of disturbing me, "Very soon, when our baby is brought back, your illness will also be cured."
I knew that things were not as simple as he said. I stubbornly asked, "What conditions did Sebastian offer?"
Sebastian made me sick and deliberately delivered me to Hendrix. Sebastian must have another motive. He was different from before and his conditions would only be more difficult to satisfy.
Hendrix pursed his lips and stroked my cheek to comfort me. "Don't worry. I can handle it. You just go back with Aaron obediently. I'll handle the rest."
"Go back?" I turned my face and looked at Aaron for confirmation.
Aaron nodded heavily, which indicated that he was right. "Mesville isn't our country after all. If the enemy forces us, we may not be able to resist. It's better to go back first."
I lowered my head and didn't reply.
I came here for the sake of the child, but I would return home alone. How could I leave at ease?
Hendrix seemed to have seen through my mind. He grabbed me in the head with his broad palm and let me look into his eyes. We came into contact with each other's forehead. He said imploringly, "Trust me, leave it to me. You go back and take care of our daughter first. Wait for me for three days, and then I will go back with our son to keep you company."
