"I'm here!"

Like a person who had seen a rescue boat in the ocean, I suddenly stood up and almost rushed out.

Aaron said he would pick me up, but I stayed and worked overtime, so I ignored him after I sent him a WhatsApp message. I was lucky that he was smart enough to find me, or I would really have been here the whole night.

Hearing the sound, Aaron came over, opened the office door and looked inside. Zoel also put down what he was doing. They looked at each other, and there was a bit of tension in the air.

"You're Arianna's boss?" Aaron raised his eyebrows with an unpleasant look on his face.

"You misunderstood. I'm just her colleague." Zoel put his hands in his pockets and looked as he usually did.

"So it's not up to you." Aaron looked away lazily and gestured outside with his chin raised. "Come on, let's go home."

Aaron was born to be a leader. Although he had not introduced himself, his arrogant attitude had shown that he was either a rich or affluent person.

All smart people knew that they should avoid his aggressive attitude.

However, there was another kind of smart person. The kind that knew how to fight back and stand for principles.

"As Arianna's family, I would be happy for her pursuing success, not dragging her down!" Zoel's voice was powerful, instantly changing the atmosphere in the office.

I held my bag in mid-air, speechless and awkward.

Zoel's efforts were admirable, but at this moment, he was definitely being a little meddlesome. He looked more unbecoming than before, a completely different person from how he was before, and it made me feel deceived.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Parker," I said before Aaron did. I walked to him, looked at him and said seriously, "I think you'd better understand that Aaron is part of my life, and has nothing to do with you. Even if you are my senior here, it doesn't mean that you are qualified to judge others at will."

Zoel probably didn't expect that although I looked weak, my attitude would be so tough. He frowned unexpectedly and didn't answer.

I was not in the mood to care about him. I turned around and took Aaron's hand to walk outside. "Let's go home! Maybe this place isn't for me. Do you think I can support myself?"

"Absolutely, is it really so difficult? What kind of a law firm is this? This office is not as spacious as our bathrooms at the manor. Tomorrow I could open your own firm for you, even!" It was rare for Aaron to see me fight back at someone without hesitation, so he was naturally willing to cooperate.

We continued to speak brazenly all the way out.

As soon as I got into Aaron's car, I recalled what had just happened. I didn't realize it until I touched my chest. The first day of my internship, I talked back to my senior. I wouldn't have been able to do such a thing before.

After giving birth to the child, I felt like I was back to who I was before, someone who couldn't bear to see my loved ones get the shorter end of the stick.

The sound of my stomach growling dragged me back to reality.

"Let's go eat supper, ugh, I'm star... ving?" I turned around and found Aaron staring at me with great interest. "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something dirty on my face?" Aaron leaned back on the steering wheel and said with a half- smile, "Nothing. I feel like my little sister is coming back to life."

"What are you on about, huh?" I couldn't stand him being mushy, so I brazenly rubbed my belly and changed the topic. "Take me to eat something first. I haven't eaten anything from the afternoon until now. I'm going to collapse."
