My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1774
With Mullen on the lookout, Hendrix became particularly indulgent for the next few days. He stayed in the Reid Manor almost every night, and only left when dawn arrived.
This week, a virtual currency called Bate Coin stirred up a frenzy within the country. Several prestigious families in Jarold City were involved, but the risk for investment was far higher than the norm, so it did not manage to obtain the support of official authorities.
However, the news kept buzzing with speculation.
"The Drake Real Estate now accepts payment through Bate Coin..."
"The first Bate Coin transaction at a car dealership was a success..."
Charles was furious. Every day, he would gather the whole family in front of the television to watch the ongoing news.
"This man, Freud Harris... All he does is bark nonsense! What are the TV station staff doing, allowing such a man to brainwash the people of the country through their screens?" he bellowed.
It had not even been two minutes, and Charles was so furious that his face turned livid. He wished he could storm into the television screen and beat up the stock analyst who was paving the way for Bate Coin "You don't have to be so angry," Aaron persuaded. "In this era where the internet is paramount, no one uses the television anymore. He won't be able to do much."
"I don't think so," Emma retorted while rolling her eyes at him gloomily. As she watched the pair singing onscreen, she analyzed the situation. "You don't play with stocks, so of course you don't know the truth in it. Freud's existence," she continued, "is like a god to the shareholders, and every one of them acknowledges him as Master Freud. All the stocks he name-dropped are highly sought-after. Now that he claims that Bate Coin is profitable, I'm afraid there will be no trading for it in the stock market in the future."
"What does the rise or fall of Bate Coin have to do with his insignificant status as a stock analyst? Doesn't he know that Uncle Charles' men have been eyeing it?" Aaron asked while narrowing his eyes in distrust, obviously having doubts in Emma's words.
"Of course, it has nothing to do with him, but the person behind him wants Bate Coin to be coveted," she explained.
"Are you saying that Freud was bribed by the
Drake family?" Aaron inquired. He was smart, so he immediately understood. After pausing for a moment, he continued, "As a designer, how are you so familiar with the concept of stock?" "What? Are women not allowed to be good at business? Are only men allowed to be knowledgeable and only men can work hard?" Emma ridiculed him coldly and impolitely.
Aaron was stuck and he could not rebut because of the fact that he was in the wrong due to the incident with the foreign girl. All he could do was stare at her angrily. These two enemies might really just quarrel until the end of their lives.
"All right, stop arguing," Charles demanded. He was in a bad mood and reproached them with an overcast expression. "The Drake family has been looking to cooperate with people currently. Keep a tight eye on the assets you're in charge of. Aaron Reid, I'm warning you, I would normally turn a blind eye toward your mischief, but I won't hesitate to break your legs if you get involved with Bate Coin!"
"No way would I do that!" Aaron joked and changed the topic intentionally. "Oh, Uncle Charles, calm down. I'll talk to Freud Harris tomorrow and stop him from acting so arrogantly on television!" "Don't try to fool me with your tricks. You should pay attention to the way you talk. You are my nephew. Don't let anyone catch you slipping up, otherwise..." Charles trailed off.
I was completely disinterested in Bate Coin and the stock analyst. I was just focused on worrying if the Drake family would drag Hendrix into the shady business.
According to Charles, this was not a legal deal. I was concerned that Hendrix would be forced to participate for his revenge plan. If this situation left behind evidence that could be used in court, it would be very difficult for him to clear his name and escape in the future.
