My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1796
Josiah's face was much rounder, and his chin was covered with a black beard, that looked quite masculine, probably to deceive the world. His eyebrows were salt and pepper grey. If he hadn't entered the door and sat down opposite us without any hesitation, I would never have been able to tell that the man in front of me was someone I knew.
Other than being shocked, I felt a sense of irony in my heart.
After less than three years of imprisonment, Josiah had lost some of his energy and vigor, while Anne nearly lost her life. Those innocent victims who had been implicated in the calamity, and the citizens who were contaminated by chemicals, had the rest of their lives ruined forever.
Oh, God was so unfair!
"Long time no see." Josiah was the first to break the silence. His voice was deep as he fixed his empty gaze on us with a faint smile in his eyes.
In the past, I had been deceived by his fake innocence, and I didn't know how many times I've been fooled by it.
"If possible, let's make this quick," I said coldly. I had no intention of being polite to him.
Josiah lowered his head and lifted the corners of his mouth in self-mockery but didn't say anything.
He was full of evil, but his smile was relaxed and pleasantly comfortable. I couldn't believe that I had let him get along with Anne for such a long time.
"I'm warning you not to go near Anne anymore." I gritted my teeth. I remembered how much pain Anne was in at that time, and my fingernails nearly dug into my flesh.
My gut warned me that no matter what his purpose was, we must get rid of him from our world.
Josiah leaned back on his seat and looked at me calmly, then said slowly, "Don't you think that's ridiculous? I'm Anne's father. How is it reasonable for you to keep me away from her?"
"You're not." Sensing his plan, I gnashed my teeth and refuted firmly, "Anne is mine and Hendrix's. She has nothing to do with you."
Josiah seemed to be at peace as he chuckled, "Is that true? What if I can show a paternity test? You can take a gander if the law will acknowledge our relationship as father and daughter then." Speaking of that, my heart sank, and I couldn't help but frown.
Josiah had been lurking about in her school for such a long that getting some of Anne's hair and fingernails would be a piece of cake for him. He expected that he would be discovered one day, so he had made preparations so that he could approach her openly and justifiably.
Aaron bent his knuckles and heavily slammed the table. With a sullen face, he threatened him, "You'd better know what's good for you. This is neither Ucrebury nor prison. No one will protect you here." To the public, Aaron wasn't someone to be trifled with. His darkened face could frighten a child to tears, but Josiah was indifferent to this. He met his eyes and put on a false smile, "Of course, I know that in Jarold City, a modern and highly developing city where money is everything, a million dollars can easily buy a person's entire life. There are several ways to make someone disappear forever, right?" After three whole years, when I saw his gloomy expression again, my heart skipped a beat. The frown on my brows subconsciously furrowed even deeper.
Life in solitary prison didn't seem to make him repent for his mistakes, but he seemed even more unscrupulous than ever.
Aaron didn't expect his threat to fall flat His face changed drastically, and it was obvious that he was pissed. The two of them faced each other off from across the table, and the atmosphere began to turn tense
