My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1810
Aaron's eyes flickered as he turned his face away. He had no intention to explain.
Emma was so exasperated that it seemed as if her eyes were about to pop out of their sockets. I pressed him further, "Aaron, can't you be nicer to Emma?"
Aaron stayed calm as if he had heard nothing, which made us feel helpless.
Since he wasn't going to cooperate, I couldn't be bothered to pay any more attention to him. I pulled Emma to my side and whispered, "Why are you both quarreling again?"
She was a sensible person. Whenever they bickered, she always treated him with respect. But this time, she didn't even smile. Everyone could see that this couple was having a fight. It must have been Aaron who had gone too far.
After taking a deep breath, Emma suppressed her anger and explained, "I've recently started up a company with my friend and I'm looking for an investor. Today's party was an opportunity for me to finally build a private network with people who had wealth to spare and are interested in my project. Our discussion was almost settled, and the boss had promised to sign the contract tomorrow, but Aaron suddenly showed up and glared at us with his huge eyes, then scared that person away!"
The corners of my mouth tugged upwards awkwardly as I turned to look at Aaron. Did he really have nothing else better to do?
"Aaron did go too far in this matter, but why didn't you mention your plan beforehand? Not to mention, you were going to find an investor who's filthy rich. Wasn't it right for Aaron to intervene? If a couple is on the same wavelength, won't the business be more prosperous?"
"Him?" Emma snorted while casting a disdainful look behind her. "Aaron is well-off, but his level of wealth can't be compared to those men. Besides, he's never liked anything I like, so he definitely won't pay me a single cent... Let's just forget about it, I'll consider this my bad luck and find another one."
"Actually..."
"Ding, ding, ding-"
Just as I was about to straighten out their relationship, the emcee on the podium in the main hall held up a microphone and tapped on a glass cup. He looked reluctant to speak.
"Today is Mr. Koch's father, Mr. Bache's seventieth birthday. This man has gone through the ups and downs of life, emerging victorious from all of his battles. Now, let's invite Mr. Koch up to the stage to wish him a very happy birthday!"
Once he was done, Milleon went up to the stage with the audience's encouragement.
"Well, thank you all for coming to celebrate my father's birthday today. I'm not a very capable man, but with my sole ability, which is to make money, I've managed to not let my family down," he joked. "My fathe cares about me a lot, and I wish that he'll stay healthy and happy forever, so that he'll be able to spend his long life with us!"
"Hear, hear!"
The emcee was very perceptive, and the audience burst into thunderous applause instantly.
While this was going on, a figure flashed across the stage suddenly and went straight to the emcee. After muttering a few words into the host's ear, the unknown man handed him a square wooden box before leaving the stage.
The podium was a little far from where I was standing, so I couldn't see who it was. However, I vaguely felt that this person was somewhat familiar, as if I had seen him somewhere before.
The host continued, "Everyone, listen up. Looks like all of you are extremely lucky tonight. Our very own Miss Forbes knows that the master appreciates antiques, so she gathered a precious collection specially for Mr. Bache as a birthday gift. It has been handed to me. Everyone, look!"
The emcee held the box with both hands and opened the top to show it to the audience. Then, the camera man that was recording the stage panned over. Within a second, the big screen on the stage displayed the antique placed inside. It was a relic known as the Tibetan Bead.
