My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1835
There was hardly any traffic on the road but Hendrix focused hard as he drove.
However, something moved in my heart. I would remember that night and this expression of his forever. He looked so calm and collected, but I could feel the deep sense of love and affection he had for me through it.
If he really had to choose between revenge and dying for me that day, he would definitely have chosen the latter in a heartbeat.
However, there were no 'if's in life, and there was no need to sacrifice one's life for something that may or may not happen.
Hendrix remained silent as he drove me to the crossroads near the Reid family home and parked the car by the roadside.
As soon as I saw Mullen's car, I unbuckled my seatbelt and proceeded to get out of the car. Suddenly, Hendrix spoke in a low voice, "You're wrong."
Such inexplicable words puzzled me for a moment. "What?" I asked.
Hendrix bore his eyes into mine and said, "To me, you're the most important thing in my life.
Although you've guessed it wrong this time, it doesn't mean you were wrong the other times. Listen, no matter what happens to you, I will be there with you. No one can stop me, so you'd better give up the idea of dying. Otherwise, I don't mind turning the tables and letting you feel the pain of losing someone."
I was stunned for a moment. I did not expect him to speak so rashly.
But what Hendrix said was completely right. Ever since we left the lab, I had not been myself. I even thought that as long as Hendrix was around, everything that I ever cared about would be looked after by him. Hence, my death would be quite insignificant.
But I did not think on Hendrix's part, and how he would be able to accept my departure. Although me dying was merely a guess, the possibility of it was enough to kill him.
Nothing was more painful than watching a loved one slowly dying away.
All of a sudden, I realized that Hendrix also had a vulnerable side to him and that I needed to comfort him.
Although I had no idea how long I could live, I tried to give him as
much hope as I could. "Of course I'll survive. Even if I'm going to die, I will make sure that Serene and all
people are behind bars first. I
her
couldn't bare to leave our lovely child behind in such a cold cruet world
filled with greed."
Hendrix's slightly furrowed brows relaxed when he heard that. His expression eased greatly, and happiness glinted in his eyes.
Yes, he knew children meant the world to me.
Who knew that a man with such power and stature would have a child-like side to him? A sensitive side that needed to be repeatedly coaxed and assured.
I calmly unfastened my seatbelt. Before Hendrix could react, I quickly leaned over and kissed him on his cheeks. Then, I turned to open the door and walked towards Mullen's car.
After getting into Mullen's car, I could not help but feel complacent for what I had just done. Mullen had already started the engine and thus, we began our drive towards the Reid family house.
I looked back impulsively and
noticed Hendrix sitting in his car.
Under the dim lights, his figure kept shrinking, like a delicate sculpture displayed through a window on the streets, staring at the direction in which I left.
The car was already a far distance away, and Hendrix's voice had been drowned out in the darkness.
turned around and stared at Mullen's face through the rearview mirror. "I want to know the truth."
She raised her gaze to look at me. In a calm voice, she replied, "Mr. Roberts should have already explained everything to you."
