My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1859
Just as I was caught in a daze, Johannes took notice of the commotion and slowly turned to look at me.
His gaze was directed in Hendrix's direction. When he glanced over, Hendrix's eyes still looked cold and angry. The pair of father and son, who had been separated for more than 20 years, had finally reunited in such circumstances.
But no one appeared surprised when Johannes' gaze met Hendrix's. It was as if they already knew of each other's existence.
Johannes even smiled as he gently lifted the champagne in his hand, raising a toast to Hendrix through the air.
This gesture undoubtedly irritated Hendrix. His face was extremely dark, and his hands that had been hanging by his side had been clenched into tight fists.
Each individual played an important part in their respective areas. Any riot would be treated as terrorism by security.
I understood Hendrix all too well. I didn't hesitate at all as I ran towards him after seeing the rage-driven veins bulging on his face.
"Don't."
Just as he lifted his foot to make a move, I held on to his fist.
Hendrix, like a furious lion king, stared in Johannes' direction while gnashing his teeth in anger. Ten seconds passed before he let out a deep breath and calmed down.
He turned his head and saw how anxious I was. A trace of distress flashed through his eyes. He then looked back in Johannes's direction. He couldn't bear to do what he wanted to and instead, pulled me out of the venue from the side door.
After finding an unoccupied bench in the garden at the back, Hendrix finally calmed down, his face appearing slightly more relaxed.
"Now you know why I've been acting weirdly these days." His tone was faint, full of helplessness and a sense of loss.
Indeed, who would actually believe that a dead man had resurrected? If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have written this off as a hallucination Hendrix had due to his longing for his parents.
I was at a loss for response due to this sudden revelation and had no idea what to say.
Hendrix leaned against the bench behind him like a block of wood and began to explain to himself
without waiting for my response.
"I found out by accident when I was investigating Baldrick. The person tracking Sebastian followed Baldrick and bribed his men. They took private photos of the Yeager
Mansion. One of the photos was that man and him playing golf. It had caught his side profile, but
recognized him at a glance.
"After hiding for so many years, he has finally revealed himself. He has indeed grown old."
"Twenty years... I guess I was the real joke..."
His words were incoherent, and he spoke in a self-deprecating tone, treating himself as a clown. At the
moment, he was like a defeated and
injured wolf, lonely and
embarrassed.
I suddenly understood what he meant by having his faith of twenty years collapse.
At this moment, any comfort and enlightenment seemed rather pointless.
I chose to let him lie in my arms, just like the night before in the room in Ucrebury. I did not say a word and quietly waited for the dark emotions to pass by.
Love was truly a mystery. Even if the other party couldn't do anything, mere accompaniment could be a form of salvation.
A wise person never stayed in a whirlpool of emotions for too long, especially in areas with such great uncertainty and the unknown. Hendrix quickly composed himself, got up from my arms, and sat up straight.
"Let's get out of here first." Hendrix made a prompt decision.
Just as he finished speaking, we heard footsteps along the stone path leading to the banquet hall.
