My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1865
Tobias agreed to it without a second thought. "Alright, give me five minutes."
The call ended and Miller continued to drive while searching the surrounding areas of the city. Three minutes later, Tobias sent over a location that was near the bridge by the moat.
I immediately told Miller to change her route. Ten minutes later, I saw the license plate number Evan mentioned.
When I opened the door and got out, I saw Hendrix standing alone by the river. He seemed even more desolate under the gloomy weather. As I approached him, I felt my chest tighten.
No matter how difficult things were or how cruel the truth was, as long as Hendrix did not give up, I was willing to stick with him through it all. Hendrix was deep in thought, completely unaware that someone was approaching. He was startled when I hugged his stiff torso from the back. After a while, Hendrix's hoarse voice sounded, "We're going back to Ucrebury."
My chest tightened even more at his heartwrenching voice.
I nodded without hesitation. "Okay, I'll go with you."
After standing by the moat for a while, Hendrix escorted me back to the hotel, silent the whole way.
As if drained of all energy, Hendrix collapsed in his bedroom after informing Evan of his plans to return to Ucrebury.
I closed the bedroom door, walked to the balcony and called Freya.
"Something happened, so I have to go back to Ucrebury tonight. Would you like to come with me or stay for a few more days?"
"I'm fine with either option. But why did you suddenly decide to head back? Did something happen at the auction yesterday?" Freya had
disappeared entirely the night ne
before. Thus, she did not have a clue about what was going on.
I subconsciously looked in the bedroom's direction, unsure of where to begin. "I can't explain everything now but in short, Hendrix's father is still alive." "Who?" Freya thought she had misheard me. "Didn't that man die more than 20 years ago? Has he been resurrected from the dead?"
"I'm not sure of the details for the time being. Hendrix said he booked a ticket to Ucrebury because he needed to verify a few things with the Roberts elders."
"Judging from your tone, I gather that this resurrected man you're talking about did not come in peace?" Freya had always been an observant person.
I sighed helplessly at the phone. "Yes. He wants our kids and is being very hostile to Hendrix. To be honest, I don't like my father-in-law at all."
I wasn't saying this in the heat of the
moment. Although Valerie and Pedro wanted to kill me at one point, that was only because they had mistaken Andrea for their owne daughter. They did try to make it up
to me after learning the truth.
But Johannes turned a deaf ear to Hendrix's suffering for the past twenty years; his words were indifferent and selfish. He was cold-blooded, and he was completely unapproachable with that overbearing attitude of his.
"That's surprising. How could
Hendrix, a God-sent man, be abandoned? Do they have beef between them?" Freya started to analyze the situation. Suddenly, she realized she had pried too much and quickly changed the subject "Don't worry too much. Perhaps things aren't as bad as you think, I won't be joining you on your trip back to Ucrebury. See you in Jarold City. Please keep safe."
