My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1889
Hendrix was naturally prideful, hence it would be odd for him to be submissive all the time. But his current personality was as such; occasionally, he would reveal his true self to others, making it easier to convince others. But it was known to everyone that the grudge in Hendrix's heart would never be resolved completely.
Nathan had sent Sebastian to come to us in person to warn Hendrix that he could turn the tides and destroy us. Hence, it was best for us to not act rashly.
However, on the surface, Nathan and Hendrix were still playing happy-family - one that would gladly share a meal with each other.
The night before, Hendrix had sent out his current position and ordered someone to sneak into the island to search for the antidote.
However, the plan could not keep up with the changes most of the time. Jordan knocked on our door early in the morning.
Hendrix was sitting on the sofa facing the laptop, and I opened the door. "Is something the matter?" "Pack up. I'll take you to the scientific research center on the island," Jordan said, inadvertently glancing at Hendrix.
I pressed my lips together and my thoughts ran deep.
No one from the Marshall family was a simple person. They knew we had come to the island with an agenda, but Nathan had refused to let Hendrix participate in the family business the day before. Would Jordan be so kind to help us even if it meant possibly offending Nathan?
While I was still hesitating, Hendrix had already walked behind me and said in a low voice, "Sure. Both of us will be there soon."
"Alright." Jordan nodded and walked to the stairs.
After standing at the door for a while, Hendrix closed it and turned to walk back into the room. Then, he began to get dressed.
I leaned in and fixed his tie for him. "What do you think of Jordan?"
Hendrix looked at me, his gaze lowered, before he straightened his suit in front of the mirror and replied nonchalantly, "He may look harmless on the outside, but he's deeply unpredictable on the inside. It's hard to grasp his character."
After his tie was done, he paused
and put on his coat. Then he looked at me in the mirror again and said, "This kind of seemingly natural intimacy is booby trapped. Since all of these are just calculated gestures, let's see who's better at this game. My subordinates sent a message saying that the scientific research center is heavily guarded and is difficult to break in, so we should take a trip there."
These few words depicted a big drama of intrigue between the brothers, although Hendrix was careful and handled it with ease.
Convinced by his eased composure, I went to the bedroom and put on some light makeup. I found a coat and put it on, then we went downstairs together.
We took an island buggy and started heading towards the scientific research center. We arrived within five minutes.
The research center was a modern
building with a strong technological presence in its architectural design. The whole building had a transparent protective cover made of special materials. There was a surveillance camera every 50 meters around it, covering almost every existing blind angle. After entering through the door, Jordan's palm print was needed for further entry. On top of the required passcode input, an eye verification was also part of the security measure. Only then could we officially enter the core of the center which was said to be a bio-technological company. To put it bluntly, it was really just a place for a group of people in white coats to work together in.
After walking around the building, we finally figured out that the biggest industry on the island was drug manufacturing.
Human beings were highly involved
in matters of life and death. As such,
this industry would never be out of customers as patients were everywhere. The Marshall family not only controlled the entire
pharmaceutical production, but also the source of developments. It was truly a monopoly industry achieved by strength. It was no wonder Baldrick could be a benevolent man who was never short on money.
