My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1892
The nurse Nathan employed was a good-looking Chinese woman with a great figure. Although her skin was well cared for, the aged gaze she bore revealed her true age. She had the facial features of a typical Asian, but she had green contacts on and her hair was dyed blonde. She looked like a native of Mesville.
This woman seemed to have seen much of the world. After what Hendrix said, she composed herself and tried to negotiate again almost instantly.
She waved her hands and approached us while gesturing as she spoke, "Sir, you have to know that Mr. Marshall wants what's best for the children. As the future heirs of the Marshall family, they have to be trained from a young age. Through this, they will be excellent problem-solvers in the future. I'm sure you won't want the children to be thought of as a loser..."
Hendrix was indifferent to this and switched languages, "Speak English."
The blonde woman was stunned and did not respond for a moment. She continued to say, "I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean..."
Hendrix didn't give her a chance to finish. "You don't even know what your nationality is, yet you think you're qualified to teach my children? I'll give you three seconds to get out of my sight."
"You-" The blonde girl turned speechless as she seethed with anger. She parted her lips to argue, but Evan's expression had too turned cold. He stepped forward and gestured to the girl, "This way please." Seeing that no one wanted her around, the blonde woman rolled her eyes angrily, and stormed off.
When the room quieted down, Hendrix walked forward calmly and checked the children's condition. Seeing that both Wynn and Aurelia were alright, he relaxed a little.
"Could you guys give us a moment?" I asked. I wanted to speak to Hendrix privately.
As Evan and the other nurse had been with us for so long, they automatically understood what we meant. They hurriedly left and closed the door behind them.
As soon as I heard the sound of the
heard
door closing, leaned over and knelt beside Aurelia's bed. I reached out to gently touch her fleshy little hand and the panic in my heart grew stronger. "Hendrix, do you think this is really worth it?"
Hendrix glanced at me and seemed to have seen through my worries. He said calmly, "It is. I want our family to be complete."
I understood what he meant. Without me, a domestic life was pointless to him. Thus, it was worthwhile for him to take such a big risk.
"It's only been two days since we've arrived but my heart is completely filled with this unexplainable fear. I know that the Marshall family would not hurt the children, but what if..."
What if Sebastian pulled something?
If he hurt any of us, who should we hand over the children to? Would Hendrix leave them to the Marshall family Would the Marshall family turn our children into selfisho cold-blooded monsters?
And Jordan, who was so secretive - who knew what was on his mind and if he had any schemes up his sleeves?
The more I pondered this, the
stronger I felt myself drifting further
away in a daze. I didn't notice the reaction of the people around me at all. It was not until Hendrix circled me from behind that I came to leaned into him, taking in his familiar scent and warmth. I realized that he was comforting me in a low voice.
"Won't be much longer now. My people have already come ashore. You, our children, and the antidote will all return safely. Remember, Anne is still waiting for us at home. Be strong."
I looked at our children and my gaze immediately softened.
He was right. Monique had gone before I did, leaving Anne behind. There was no way I could leave her behind, let alone let Aurelia and Wynn live without a mother.
I held his hands which were still around my waist and whispered, "Okay."
Perhaps I had already gone past the point of no return the day I fell in love with Hendrix.
