After hearing me say that, shock flashed across Irvin's eyes right before tears started to well up in those same tender orbs.

It felt like me calling him my fiance was something he had been looking forward to, and it had only recently been achieved. To be more exact, it felt like he was testing me.

A moment later, Irvin collected himself and made way to the doctor and nurse who had been waiting by his side. "Doctor, please give her a detailed examination."

I frowned in surprise, a strange feeling arose in my heart.

I had been in a coma for days. As my fiance who had stayed by my side loyally, he should be ecstatic about me regaining consciousness; it was definitely something worth celebrating. But there seemed to be more than what met the eye, seeing how he was behaving.

The doctor didn't seem surprised either as he calmly arranged a series of examinations for me. After running a whole morning of tests, he finally came to an unconstructive conclusion.

"According to the examination results, Miss Reid, your bodily functions have recovered quite well. However, due to the prolonged lack of oxygen to the brain during the accident, you've lost some of your memories..."

My mind was blank, and I suddenly felt attacked by an overwhelming sense of restlessness. I had no interest in decrypting the doctor's words, so I lowered my head and fiddled with my fingers.

During the tests, I did not sit idly by. Amidst the whirring of all kinds of machines, I kept trying to recall the first half of my life, but to no avail. The feeling of failure lingered in my heart, as if it was reminding me that living like this was incomplete.

"Let's talk outside." Irvin called the attending doctor to the door. The two shut the window and began seriously discussing my condition. From time to time, they looked at me through the glass window on the door. It seemed they were in a state of dilemma.

The nurse who was waiting to give

me my medicine seemed excited. "Miss Reid, you finally woke up. You have been lying in bed for three

years, but come rain or shine, Monet

Granger stayed with you for all six years. Many people in our hospital regarded Mr. Granger as their Prince Charming, yet he only cares about you. We're all very envious of you."

As she mentioned Irvin, the woman's face turned

red.

We were much older than the young nurse, but men his age were indeed charming. Irvin was gentle and affectionate. Besides the nurse, I was sure there were a few others who had a crush on him.

I didn't know what ordinary women

felt when their husbands had caught

the eye of so many others. Even if they didn't act out, they would at least feel a little upset. However, I was very calm and even smiled with gratification, sincerely happy for

their love for Irvin.

A moment later, Irvin came in again. His handsome and modest countenance made people feel that he was easy to get along with, but the unease in my heart grew.

After dismissing the nurse, he sat beside the bed and skillfully poured me a glass of warm water, as if it was something he had done many times before.

I took the glass and held it in my hands to warm them up. I looked up at him and asked, "Are we really engaged?"

Though he did give me a sense of familiarity, it still felt like there was something missing. Somehow, this didn't feel like the type of intimacy shared between a husband and wife.

If Irvin indeed was my fiance, why didn't I feel even a tinge of jealousy over him?

Irvin gave me a small smile. "Do you think I'm lying?"

"You..." Suddenly, an image of a man who stayed religiously by my side flashed across my mind. I instantly felt a little apologetic and swallowed the words that were about to escape my mouth. I quickly shook my head and changed what I was about to say. "No, maybe something happened between us. A fight,

perhaps? Otherwise, I would..."
