My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1915
In fact, I have nothing to say much about them. Aside from Irvin, Freya and Cyril were the only acquaintances in my life. As for the richest man, whom I had met once, I was livid about what happened the previous night, therefore I didn't mention him to Freya.
Freya gave me a sense of intimacy.
We had a leisurely chit-chat, and it was already eleven o'clock in the twinkling of an eye. I stood up and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch. "It wasn't easy getting together. Come join me for lunch." Freya did not refuse. "Of course, I won't leave even if you ask me to."
I cracked a smile, finding that this uncivil and playful behavior of hers felt somewhat familiar.
When I was about to reach the kitchen, I vaguely heard Freya mutter something to Cyril behind my back though I couldn't make out the words.
It wasn't long before Freya came in to keep me company.
"Miss Moore, you can just sit outside and wait. The food will be ready soon."
Freya sighed helplessly. "I'm more used to hearing you call me Freya." "Sorry." I apologized again.
"Forget it, let's not fixate on this. Come, let me help."
"You are a guest. How could I ask you to..."
"Save your courtesy for others. I don't really regard myself as an outsider."
With the help of the servants and Freya, the meal was ready in less than half an hour.
Just when we were about to start our lunch, the sound of a car getting parked could be heard from outside.
Soon, Irvin ambled into the villa while jiggling his car key in hand. He happened to turn his head when he went by the kitchen and noticed the two strangers. He patently stopped dead in his tracks. However, the perplexed look instantly faded away from his face, turning into a faint smile.
He walked over and said, "Why didn't you let me know that there are guests visiting us? We should have prepared some delicacies for our guests."
Having the bearing of a head of the family, he sounded very hospitable.
"It was a spontaneous visit, so I couldn't inform you beforehand." I turned and ordered the servants to get another set of bowls and cutlery ready. Subsequently, I said, "I thought you wouldn't be back this early." Irvin raised his lips and remained silent.
He pulled out the chair next to me and sat down. "How about introducing them to me, Arianna?"
While speaking, Irvin placed his hand on the back of the chair behind me, an action as intimate as holding me in his arms.
I wondered if I was overthinking of it or was he purposely declaring our betrothal in a subtle manner.
Although we used to be engaged, before I was discharged from the hospital, we had already concurred that we would get along with each other as friends. However, these were just two old friends visiting us, yet trvin was not subtle with his behavior at all.
Had Irvin always been such an insecure person?
I was dazed for a moment before I started introducing them. "This is Mr. Zimmer. We met at the restaurant while this is Freya Moore."
"Hello, Miss Moore. I'm Irvin." Irvin extended his hand out to shake hands with Freya.
Freya deliberately twisted their wrists when she held his hand. "Mr. Granger, I haven't seen you in a couple of years. Have you forgotten about me?" "Do you guys know each other?" I asked.
Irvin's expression froze. He casted a glance at Cyril, who was sitting next to Freya. Although it was an almost imperceptible message, I still perceived it.
Cyril took the hint and immediately
stood up to smooth things over. "We grew up in Jarold City, and we're friends of Arianna. It's normal to have met each other before. On the other hand, it's also normal for us to forget about each other since it was just a random meeting. Anyway, it's fated that we've met again. Let's have lunch first and save the talking for later..."
He pulled Freya's hand away and thus, was met with an effective eye-roll from her. After that, she
turned to gaze at Irvin with her
beautiful eyes, which were full onet
hostility. She was about to say something but stopped on second thought. From the looks of it, she definitely harbored some concerns regarding something.
Everyone could tell that something wasn't quite right between her and Irvin, but neither of them came to clear the air.
The lunch then ended, surrounded by an undercurrent of animosity.
