My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1938
Maybe it was because of this, that Irvin and I were separated for quite some time.
As this thought sank in, I was suddenly overwhelmed with guilt. If I had figured this out earlier, then we would have children by now.
The sense of guilt increased and I felt very sorry for Irvin.
I really wanted to get better, so I said, "Irvin, I want to see a psychologist."
The moment Irvin heard me say that, he fell silent. He put down the knife and fork in his hand and looked at me seriously, "I do know something about psychological therapy, and I have consulted professional doctors about it. Psychological therapy mainly targets patients with mental disorders, but you have lost your memory because of an accident. If you undergo treatment, at most, the effect would only be temporary. It wouldn't really help you in the long run."
Irvin stopped momentarily to allow the waiter to place the dishes on the table. After he left, Irvin continued, "Why are you suddenly thinking about this? Has something happened? Don't push yourself too hard."
I thought for a moment and lowered my head with guilt. I said meekly, "I just want to find myself, and I don't want to continue living in the shadow of another person."
Irvin didn't reply. He looked down and pondered for a moment before he raised his head and said, "Since you've already decided, then I'll support you. I'll contact the psychologist when we get home tonight. However, as I've said, don't be too hopeful. We still have a long way to go."
"Okay," I said and looked at him excitedly. It didn't matter how small the chances were. As long as there was a chance, I wasn't willing to lose even a portion of my memory.
"Let's eat," Irvin smiled faintly.
It was dark after dinner. It was also drizzling slightly.
Jarold City had just welcomed autumn and the weather was wet and muddy every day. Such weather made people moody and annoyed.
By the time I got into the car, my hair was soaked from the rain. Irvin drove the car slowly on the road and chatted with me all the way home.
We drove away from the city and passed an intersection. When he stepped on the brake, he found that no matter how hard he stepped on it, the car didn't slow down. Instead, the car sped up.
Irvin tried pulling on the handbrake,
but due to how fast the car was going, the handbrake was stuck in place. The car sped across the road like a bullet being fired from a gun. The car didn't show any sign of slowing down as we sped past a red light.
Irvin's face darkened. He kept his hand on the Kørn to warn other cars on the road. He called out, "Arianna, there is something wrong with the brakes, I'm trying my best to control the car. Jump out of the car when you get the chance, otherwise it'll be too late!"
I too realized that something wasn't right with the car. I kept my gaze fixed ahead and watched as we sped through the intersection. Dozens of cars drove about burriedly to avoid colliding with us.
I held on to my seat belt tightly as I cried out nervously, "No, I won't leave you!"
When Irvin heard this, not only was he not moved by it, he became even more furious. He yelled, "Jump now! I saved you with my life before, I will not put you in danger anymore!"
The situation was critical. I didn't have time to think about what he had just said. I gritted my teeth, unlocked the car door, and jumped out. Seconds later, I landed on the grass by the roadside. Luckily, the grass was soft, and I was lucky to only have suffered minor injuries.
As I thought about Irvin who was still in the car, I quickly got up and ran towards the direction of the car. Suddenly, I heard a loud "crash". Irvin's car had hit the guardrail and flipped over.
