My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 1947
I didn't have any impression of Jennifer, but I remembered what I overheard from before. Besides, she had very similar facial features to Hendrix. I knew that they were related, so I greeted her, "Miss Marshall" purely out of respect.
As soon as Jennifer heard this, she exaggeratedly raised her hand to cover her chest and pretended to have a heart attack. She was surprised, flustered, and was in absolute disbelief, "You... you..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she collected herself and turned to look at Hendrix. She was calm as she said, "She's a lookalike. The real Arianna is dead. Even the police presented us with her death certificate. You're being deceived, Hendrix."
She sounded so certain as thought she wasn't afraid of being exposed.
Well, someone who has been pronounced dead and had everything destroyed wouldn't be able to call her out.
Next to me, Jennifer was Hendrix's closest family member. It was clear who was more important to him. Since Hendrix willingly allowed his son to change his last name to Marshall, that was a very telling bit of proof.
Wynn had been staring at his micro- computer before the servant came over to serve him some water. When he caught sight of me, he was so excited that he immediately scrambled over with the micro- computer in his hand. As the servant was afraid of disturbing us, she forcibly held onto him.
"Madam Reid! I want to play with you!" Pulling his small body forward, Wynn tried to break free from the servant. The quiet living room instantly turned noisy.
The servant's face changed drastically, as though she had committed a huge mistake as she tried to coax Wynn away.
I had no choice but to call out to him, "Wynn, please be obedient. Wait for me over there. Once I'm done, I'll come to see you. Be obedient!"
Wynn immediately pursed his lips. Although he was unhappy, he obediently lowered his head and agreed. "I get it, I'm a good boy. Madam Reid, please hurry up and come over to see me!" Obedient children were very pleasing and comforting to be around.
Wynn stopped talking, and the living room suddenly fell silent. The atmosphere was even eerier than before.
At that moment, Evan retrieved two maternity test reports and handed them to Hendrix, who slammed them on the coffee table in front of him, beltowing, "My dearest sister, explain this to me. Why did you tell me that Aurelia belongs to Arianna and another man?"
Jennifer was so nervous that she gulped. Her face was livid, her teeth chattering, as she began to say, "I... Back then, when we fought for custody, the Reid family wasn't willing to hand the child over, and you weren't willing to give in. I had to do this so that you could win the lawsuit and bring the successor of our family home. Since the Reid family wouldn't mistreat the child, we can dispel the grudge between our two families by doing this. You can forget about the person that you shouldn't have in your mind in the first place. What did I do wrong?!"
At first, Jennifer was stammering, but gradually, she became more confident.
Her tone was sharp, her attitude defiant.
Compared to Jennifer's pretentiousness, Hendrix's was exceptionally calm.
With his dark gaze fixed on Jennifer, his face was rigidly calm. In the end, he lifted the corners of his lips into a sneer, his minor gestures revealing sarcasm as he asked, "If I remember correctly, I gave you that chance. How did you explain it?"
Jennifer's expression froze in an instant.
She stared at Hendrix in horror, yelling, "You've been suspicious of me since then? You've never believed me ever since the moment you saw her? No! You weren't deceived by me!" "If I was never deceived by you, do you think our family could have lived peacefully for so many years?"
