My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 405
It was as if Helen had a surge of courage because suddenly, she was standing at the exterior of the railings. She stepped on the platform which was only as wide as her palm, with both hands on the railings. She looked haggard.
The wind on the rooftop was strong, and her whole body swayed along. If she was not careful enough, she could begin her drop from the top of this 100-story building.
If she were to fall, she would most likely turn into meat paste when she hit the ground.
A psychologist and a rescue team had arrived before we did.
As soon as Irvin and I got to the rooftop, Helen became even more agitated. Her eyes were red as she choked back her tears. "Irvin, I'm sorry."
Irvin tried to hide the fear he felt as he looked at Helen, who could fall off at any time. He said shakily, "Mom, you don't have to say sorry. I don't blame you. Please come down. Let's talk about it when we get home?"
Helen shook her head, her face looked even more soulless as ever. "Irvin, you're the only man in the family, and your father loved you. He never had a child with Nerissa because he was afraid that you would get nothing after he passed. You should live well, get married, have children, and take care of the Granger family well. That way, your father and I can rest in peace."
These words were her wishes, her final instructions to those left behind.
Irvin's eyes were a watery red. He tried hard to control his emotions and to comfort Helen by saying, "Mom, I know. Come down because you need to help find me an amazing girl to marry. You have to watch me get married. So, please Mom, don't get rash on me now. Come down and we can live together happily as a family."
Helen shook her head again, and her tears streamed down her cheeks. She said, her voice heavy with unbearable melancholy, "Irvin, please don't blame me. I only made it this far, for ten years, out of hatred for him. I couldn't face defeat, but now that hate is gone, so there's no point in living anymore. It's been so many years, and I still owe him an apology. I have to go look for him. If I couldn't be by his side and we grow old together in this lifetime, then I shall keep him company in the afterlife."
Helen had made up her mind to leave, so she could only look at her only son with despair. Without faith in life, death was the best choice.
With him losing both his parents in such a short period of time, Irvin was sure to be crushed by hopelessness and despair.
Seeing how none of his words had gotten through to Helen, Irvin's knees beneath him finally gave out. He collapsed to the ground. "Mom, what am I supposed to do if you're gone? You're the only one I have left. What am I going to do?"
Helen's eyes were filled with soft kindness and affection as she looked at him. "Irvin, without me, your life will be better. I'll only be a burden to you alive. Listen to me, don't go to Mesville, stay in the Granger Group. Your father wanted to leave the Granger Group to you. Once I die, you'll have more shares and you'll still be the chairman of the Granger Group. Live, my son."
After saying these words, Helen loosened her grip on the railings. Irvin's pupils shrank. He realized that it was too late when he ran towards her, that everything was too late.
"Mom!" The heart-wrenching sound he made was accompanied by warm streaks of tears. His scream as he rushed to jump over the railings, hoping to follow his mother off the building was instinctive, like a subconscious reaction to what he just witnessed.
Fortunately, a quick-thinking rescuer held him back, and they pressed him down to the ground as they tranquilized him.
Everything in the world was alive and had their own soul. When Helen fell from the building, the misty sky hanging over everyone's heads began to rain, washing away all the blood on the ground.
Irvin was sent to the hospital, and Helen's body was brought away by the funeral home. The crowd below the building dispersed.
In a span of a few hours, the deathmatch has come to an end.
