My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 423
He raised his hand and stroked the hair behind my ear. He sighed silently and said, "I don't want you to see him, not even for a moment!"
He paused for a while and said, "Irvin has done you a great favor. I know that, but as a man, I know what his intentions are. Arianna, promise me that you will stay away from him in the future, okay?"
I nodded and nuzzled against his chest. "I know, today was purely an accident. It's illogical not to bump into him if we're living under the same roof. We'll go home after Uncle Granger's funeral, then we won't see him again in the future."
He pursed his lips and held me in his arms before he turned over and pinned me underneath his body. "Then make it up to me, hmm?"
I couldn't help but blush, and I subconsciously wanted to hide myself away. I was trapped into a corner by him, and everything after that was a losing battle.
Hendrix was very busy, and it had to do with the many hospitals that he oversaw. If it weren't for his strong leadership, the Roberts Group would have been in ruins due to the public opinion by now.
But in the end, there was nothing I could do about it. I didn't know what kind of person Josiah was to Hendrix, so I could only remain silent.
The next day.
After Hendrix left, Nerissa went upstairs and dragged me out of the house. Yohannes' funeral would be held in a few days and she wanted to find a new house.
Since Yohannes had left the Granger Group to Irvin, Nerissa had to move out after the funeral.
Over the past few days, I felt like I was freezing to death. We went property-viewing everyday, and Nerissa was almost always unsatisfied. Either the place didn't have good lighting, or it wasn't close enough to the city center.
Indeed, a house like the Granger Manor, which had an excellent environment and location, was something hard to own even if you had the money.
After living here for so many years, Nerissa naturally wanted a house that was either better or just like the Granger Manor. After all, she was not short of money.
The day of Yohannes' funeral came so quickly despite Nerissa being unable to find a suitable house. Hence, she had no choice but to start handling the funeral instead.
On the day of the funeral, at the Granger Manor.
Nerissa had gotten up early to prepare for the funeral. After all the guests paid their respects to Yohannes, the funeral procession would take place in the afternoon.
Once all necessary traditions were carried out, Nerissa, who had been nervous for a few days, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After taking a few deep bows in front of the grave to bid farewell to Yohannes, Nerissa took a glance at Irvin, who had been standing in front of the gravestone for a long time. He had become increasingly cold and stern over the last few days.
His slender body seemed to be covered with a layer of frost; cold enough to bear with it a murderous aura.
After what happened to Helen, Irvin's bloodthirst had become even worse.
"Arianna, let's go!" I glanced at Irvin before Nerissa pulled on my hand and motioned me to leave.
My mouth opened to say something comforting, but nothing came out.
When I got into the car with Nerissa, she took a long breath and said, "Hendrix will come and pick you up later. I'll get the driver to take you downtown. Hendrix will be waiting for you there."
I nodded and didn't say anything as Irvin's lonesome figure standing in front of the tombstone stayed engraved in my mind.
My heart felt a little empty. For the rest of his life, he would be alone, without any attachments. He was free, but he was not free from loneliness.
The car stopped somewhere at the center of the city, and Nerissa got out of the car. After that, her driver went straight to the Granger Group.
I was a little confused. "You're not going to the Granger Group?"
She hummed in agreement and looked in the direction of the driver. She sighed and said, "I'll go later..."
