My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 426
"It wasn't me!" Nerissa roared angrily. "Arianna, seeing that you're Hendrix's wife, I won't argue with you. It's best if you keep your mouth shut, otherwise, I have the right to sue you for slandering me."
I sneered and said, "Okay, sue me then. As long as it helps you sleep in the quiet dead of night, and not be haunted by your conscience for what you've done to the three Granger family members, then go ahead and sue me!"
Nerissa was furious. She looked at me for a long time without saying a word. Finally, she sneered at me. "Arianna, why are you so sad over Irvin dying? Are you in love with him, and can't let him go? Don't forget whose wife you are, and what you should and shouldn't say."
What the hell?
It was laughable that a person could be so shameless to this extent.
Heavy snow fell from the dark sky. The feather- like ice crystals fell on the glaring blood and soon covered all the red on the ground until only a bit of scarlet could be seen. It seemed as if all this was just an illusion.
After Hendrix brought me back to the villa, neither of us uttered one word to each other. My mind was painted red by the blood Irvin had left behind.
My thoughts were all a red shade of selfblame and guilt. If I had noticed his changes earlier and knew that he had lost the will to live, I could have ignored the rumors and Hendrix's jealousy. If I had stayed by his side through this period of time, would he still have ended up like this?
It was my fault. I was selfish, and I had been too doubtful. I was the cause of this!
It was getting dark, and the snowfall was getting heavier by the hour. I kept thinking about the moment Irvin closed his eyes.
I was so irritated that I went downstairs to the yard to drive away the frustration and pain in my heart with the winter chill.
However, there was nothing I could do to get rid of the guilt that demanded its presence to be felt in my heart. The harder I tried to push away the thought of the kindness that Irvin had once shown me, the more I failed.
Heather suddenly came out with an umbrella and saw that half of my body had been covered with snow. She said with pity in her voice, "Madam Arianna, please get inside. It's cold out, you'll get frostbite."
I glanced at her in confusion and gave her a fake smile. I watched her shake her head before saying to her quietly, "Heather, it's so tiring to be alive!"
She was stunned and put the cotton-padded jacket she had brought out around me. Then, she reached out to pull on my hand and said, "Madam Arianna, don't talk nonsense!"
Touching my ice-cold hand, she couldn't help exclaiming, "Your hand has already become this cold. Hurry and go back inside, if not, you'll get frostbite."
I didn't move. In fact, I thought that I would feel better in such a harsh environment. Heather tugged at my shirt several times. As an older woman, she couldn't do much to me so she said, "Don't fall asleep. I'm going to call Mr. Roberts. You're going to get yourself killed!"
After Hendrix brought me back earlier, he had gone into the study. He had likely only come downstairs after hearing Heather's voice.
He pursed his lips and strode out of the villa. When he saw that I was numb in the snow, he could not help but feel a chill run down his spine. He looked at Heather and asked, "What's going on?" Heather shook her head and sighed. "I think that there's something wrong with Madam
Arianna."
I looked up at Hendrix, who was dressed in black, and felt that he was a stranger to me. I shook my head and blandly said, "I'm fine!"
