I was not seriously ill or anything of the sort. Ian was around to take care of Anne and Norman would also come to visit me all the time.

In the past four years, I had worked hard day after day and took care of Anne without rest. It was rare to have a few days of leisure, without the need to care about anything.

As I was packing up my belongings to leave the hospital, lan looked at me and said, "The doctor said that your illness was caused when you gave birth. You have to take good care of yourself in the future. Be mindful of your body. You're only thirty years old. You aren't supposed to look ninety when you get to your forties."

I smiled. "Anne said that she would like to eat chicken wings tonight. Remember to drop by the supermarket when we go back later."

He put his hand on his forehead and shrugged. "Can you think of something else?"

I fell into silence and went downstairs with my belongings.

Norman was very helpful and was already waiting for us in his car downstairs. I could not refuse, so I got into the car.

After we bought chicken wings at the supermarket, he sent lan and I back home before leaving again to pick Anne and Bennett up.

After my days calmed and turned peaceful, everyday was just as ordinary as they come. In the past, I would always ponder if I had the luck to stay by Hendrix's side for a lifetime.

Perhaps I was someone more family-oriented; someone who would watch over their child on the daily, learn to cook up delicious food, and to take care of their child.

Life was filled with unpleasantries. In the past four years, I had learned to let go of a lot of things. I always thought that perhaps, he had his own difficulties and his own reasons for lying to me and hurting me.

I thought that because we loved each other too much, it was inevitable for hatred and resentment to eventually join love in enveloping our relationship. As time went by, the storm would pass and we would eventually regain our balance and peace. Nonetheless, we had already gone our separate ways. Our lives are now our own to live.

Norman was always quick on his feet. He soon had me transferred over to the office. Having free time was something I still had to get used to.

Perhaps I had more free time on my hands now; I started listening in to more gossips at the office. Someone at the hotel with relationship problems had committed suicide by jumping off a building. Everyone at work was discussing it.

"I heard that the girl's parents are high-ranking officials in Jarold city. Although this technically isn't the hotel's responsibility, the incident did happen at our hotel. I guess that the hotel's about to be in trouble." "You're right! I was just starting to think that life's finally looking up for us, but with something like this happening, I'm afraid we might have to start looking for jobs again."

"Exactly! I heard that the head office is loaded. They won't bat an eye at this small hotel's profits. I think the higher-ups would not even want to spend time dealing with this, they might just directly close shop." "Then we're going to lose our jobs. This is so frustrating. It wasn't easy for me to finally get a job. The salary and benefits here are good too. But I'm going to be jobless again."

A few of the rotational hotel receptionists had gathered together to discuss this. I could not help but eavesdrop. It was true that there were no big companies in the small city of Hovell. There were only factories and some small stores to be found.

This holiday resort was considered one of the bigger businesses here. The salary and benefits they offered was much greater than that of other hotels in the area. If it closed, I would have to find a job again. I was afraid that I would not be able to land something that could offer me a monthly salary of 3000 dollars. I heaved a heavy sigh. I thought I could finally earn a little more now, but alas, luck was not on my side!

When Norman came in and saw the sighing receptionists, a frown appeared on his forehead. "If you have time to gossip, then you should have time to think about how to do your work well." The few front desk receptionists left after being yelled at by him.

He approached me and saw that I was staring blankly at the computer screen. "What are you thinking about? We get off work soon. Do you want to go and pick up Anne and Bennett together later?"

I nodded. However, when I remembered that I still had work to do, I quickly shook my head and said, "Please help me pick Anne up. I still have something to clear up. Sorry for troubling you." When he saw the unfinished forms on my computer screen, he smiled and left without saying anything else.
