My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 822
To draw a clear line between love and hate was easier said than done.
I said, "Josiah, can you guarantee that Anne will grow up without any qualms?"
He nodded calmly and said, "She will. She's my daughter. I will take good care of her, and devote all my love and affection to her."
I trusted him.
So, I nodded.
Had the driver called the police? It didn't seem likely. I had acted too rashly. I should have informed Aaron that I had come to the factory. Otherwise, perhaps no one would know that I had died even if my body had started rotting.
A decaying corpse would be so ugly!
Watching as I stared at the sulfuric acid, he grinned and smiled wantonly. Then, he said, "Letting you die the same way as Natalie did is an honor."
I looked at him and said angrily, "So, from your point of view, this is a privilege, right?"
He raised his eyebrows and nodded. "It's some kind of ritual. Do it!" he urged me.
I wasn't afraid of death, but I wasn't willing to die like that. I stayed still for a long time.
He was an extremely impatient person. Seeing that I didn't react, he stood up and walked over to the table.
He picked up the sulphuric acid and eerily turned towards me. Lifting his eyebrows, he said in an impatient tone, "Do I have to do this myself?"
I looked at his somewhat twisted face and reflexively took a step back. "Josiah, you can still turn around and walk away now!" I shouted at him. "Hahahaha!" He suddenly burst out laughing and looked at me viciously. He said, "Arianna, you're scared!"
That was bullsh*t. Who wouldn't be scared in such a situation?
He approached me step-by-step, while I subconsciously moved back step-by-step.
"Josiah, the dead can't be resurrected, and only the living are worth treasuring," I said out of instinct.
He smiled coldly and didn't listen to what I had said at all. He had already opened the bottle, raising it as he approached me.
He looked at me and said callously, "You really look like Natalie right now. She was in pain and was struggling just like you when she died. I think that she must've really wanted to live, but she just couldn't find a reason to. Tell me, why couldn't I be the reason for her to live?"
I looked at him and took one step back at a time, but I got blocked by something behind me. There was nowhere else for me to go.
He looked at me as if he was looking at a clown. With a terrifying aura, he splashed the sulfuric acid onto me.
Almost instantly, I instinctively raised my hands to protect my face, but I couldn't block all of the acid in the end.
I was suddenly shielded by someone, wrapped in their arms. At about the same time, I heard the sound of flesh being corroded and smelled a nauseating stench.
"Hiss!" I heard a man's pained voice, followed by the sound of a group of people barging in.
When I came back to my senses, only then did I realize that Hendrix had shielded me from the sulfuric acid which Josiah had splashed towards me.
His people arrested Josiah who was still in a daze. I stared at Hendrix's face which was as pale as a sheet.
Smelling the strange yet disgusting stench, I opened my mouth but couldn't say a single word.
I watched as he knelt in front of me, and watched as someone took him away in a hurry.
My head was buzzing. I couldn't say anything, nor did I know what to do.
In the hospital.
There were doctors and nurses walking around in front of me. Later on, when the pain hit, only then did I discover that my face had been scalded by the sulfuric acid.
Just after bandaging my wound, a doctor in a white coat said, "The area of your burn isn't big. Your right eyeball was injured but thankfully the acid didn't hurt the cornea, so your eyesight will be fine."
