Freya thought about it and said, "Well, you should go home and get some rest. When you get better, come and visit me and my child. You must come to the baby shower. You're to become like his elder sister from now on, so you have to come no matter what."

My mind went blank for a moment before I realized that the child and I were technically of the same generation. I couldn't help but laugh and say, "Sure, I'll definitely come!"

After I hung up on Freya, I felt a little better. The lights in the villa were still lit and Fiona was tidying up the kitchen.

When she saw that I had come home, she came out to welcome me as she enquired, "Madam, why did you come home so late? Where have you been? Sir has called home several times to ask after you and he was so anxious at not being able to reach you that he came back in a rush. Hurry up and go look for him."

She raised her hand and pointed to the second floor, signaling me to go upstairs to take a look. I was stunned for a moment as I thought, "Hasn't my phone been switched on the whole time?"

Why couldn't his calls get through? Scrolling through my phone, I found that Hendrix's number had been moved to silent notifications. It was a touch screen phone so it must've been done by accident.

I went upstairs and found Hendrix in the study room. The lights were dimmed, and his back was facing me as his tall figure stood facing the French windows, looking lonely and empty.

"Hendrix!" I called out in a low voice as I felt guilty. He must have called me many times.

He stood still in front of the window as if he hadn't heard me. However, the room was empty and there were only two of us. How could he not have heard me?

I approached him, stood behind his back, and took the initiative to apologize, "I went to the hospital and saw the doctor. My phone accidentally..."

He turned suddenly and looked at me, his eyes dark and deep as the bottomless sea, "You seem to have never addressed me so intimately before?"

I froze as my mind short circuited. I looked at him in confusion and said, "I..."

He walked towards me, his tall and slender body fixed in front of me. There was a tinge of coldness in his voice as he said, "Even without Anne, you still would've left without hesitation, wouldn't you?" I frowned, "What are you talking about?"

"You met Irvin?" he asked calmly, almost as if he had managed to suppress all emotions.

I was taken aback and suddenly understood the reason he was so gloomy. I pursed my lips and said, "I met him at the hospital entrance purely by coincidence."

"Huh!" He said and reached out to smoother, the frizzy hair above my forehead and said, "Don't meet him anymore, okay?"

He was furious. Even though he hid it very well, I could still feel it.

I nodded and felt a little frustrated. Most young adult books I had read in my youth had said that only a woman who left her man at the pinnacle of their relationship would be loved for a lifetime.

I used to laugh that theory off in my youth, as I had failed to understand its true meaning, but as I pondered on it at the moment, I found it to indeed be so.

There was some sense in Irvin's words after all. I wasn't going to be able to reproduce, and it was inconceivable for the Roberts family to not have descendants. A couple of years would still be forgivable, but how long could that understanding

last?

Who could guarantee that they would be willing to put up with me?

At the moment, an outstanding woman had appeared at his side, and I agreed that in any scenario, Rowane would be a perfect match for him.

He stretched his hand out towards me, but I avoided it. I looked up at him with a light smile, "It's getting late. Time to go to bed."

I turned to go back to the bedroom, and was followed by hurried footsteps behind me. He grabbed hold of me and pulled me straight into the bedroom, locking the door behind him.

He pinned me against the wall, looking a little somber, "Arianna, tell me, what should I do?"

I pursed my lips and looked up at him, "Hendrix, I'm asking for you to do anything. You're already as great as it is. It's getting late and I think we should sleep."
