My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 875
The photo of the location in the news was so familiar that I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the body that was laid out in white. I still remembered her story, but why did she have to end her life?
In the story, which character did she play?
I didn't know what to do. I pondered over my next action for a bit before deciding to visit a place near Andoland called 'Seddar'.
The people there were devoted to their deity. The journey there consisted of steep roads leading up to the divine mountains.
People went into the mountains to find their peace of mind, and more importantly, a piece of relief.
The road was narrow, and there were no vehicles around. I saw some people praying piously on the road as I walked past them on the way up.
I wrapped myself in a red scarf, feeling the wind whistling on the top of the mountain. I followed the group of believers and kneeled in the crowd, neither praying nor reciting the verses they were saying out loud.
I prayed silently. Every step I took was a step away from sadness and pain, turning the pages of sorrow over.
Suddenly, an old man beside me said to me, "Young lady, you need to wear knee pads. You might hurt your knees."
I looked up and saw the old man's gleaming eyes. There was a gentle and kind smile on his face.
I smiled and replied, "It doesn't matter. The more pain I feel, the less they will suffer."
The believers once said that when the living kneeled for the dead, the more devout and sincere the person was, the easier it would be for the dead to free themselves from their suffering. After going through the long road and reaching the top of the mountain, I had indeed injured my knees.
Creeping at the feet of the statue of the great deity, I closed my eyes and put my palms together to pray, "May God be merciful, may all living beings live in harmony, and may the deceased rest in peace." Sounds of chants and prayers could be heard. I knelt and stared at the statue for a long time. Its stone-carved face was loving, and its eyes were slightly upturned as if it had seen through all joys and sorrows, all right and wrong.
Let go!
Life was short. Everything passed like smoke in the blink of an eye. Only through letting go can one be freed.
Whether one was sad or not, all the suffering of the past was lost along the way of worship. The scriptures had been turned around, and everything had always been that way.
Legends had it that the road to reincarnation was just like the rotation of the rosary. Once we passed through the haze of sorrows, experienced life with a determined and compassionate heart, everything would fall into place for the creation of a better future.
Asherton in June.
In the evening, in a department of the Andar Group, a middle-aged man came in with a stack of documents and placed them in front of me. "These documents are the information needed by the marketing department tomorrow. You may have to work overtime tonight."
I nodded and put the documents in my hand down. I looked up at him as I said, "I won't attend tonight's dinner then."
The man said helplessly, "It's a party organized by the company. It'll be inappropriate if you don't attend it."
I looked up at him and sighed, "I have too much work, so I have to work overtime, don't I?"
"These documents will only be needed tomorrow afternoon. You have plenty of time to deal with them tomorrow morning. Arianna, you have to interact more with the others." His helpless persuasion was evident in his voice.
I smiled and looked at him, "Michael, it's not that I actively avoid interacting with others. I'm just not a big fan of it."
He sighed and said after a pause, "You've been with us for almost a month now. How many colleagues have you talked to up till now? Arianna, if a new beginning is what you're aiming for, then this definitely isn't it."
I stopped and looked at him, "What's a new beginning then?"
