Pain shot through my arm, but full consciousness just seemed to be a state impossible for me to reach.

It took me a long time to wake up, and when I did, I instinctively looked at my arm. There was a slight bruise and a hole that evidenced that the tip of a needle had pierced through it before. "Bang!"

Before I could think further about it, the door opened. Two policewomen barged in and instructed me, "Miss Reid, please come with us."

I frowned and looked at the two of them, "Excuse me, what time is it now?"

"It's five in the afternoon!" The policewoman barked back. "Miss Reid, let's go!"

There were six more hours to go before I got released.

Following the two policewomen out of the room, I was brought to the previous interrogation room.

The only difference this time was that there was a doctor in a white coat sitting inside. He seemed to be in his forties.

I sat down, and the policewoman immediately informed me, "Miss Reid, yesterday's blood test results showed that there were traces of drugs in your blood. We will conduct a more thorough examination on you now. Please cooperate."

I pursed my lips. "Is my lawyer here?"

She hesitated for a moment before saying, "Miss Reid, we haven't heard anything regarding your lawyer yet, so you need to cooperate with us for now."

If I didn't agree, I would get into more trouble.

I nodded. I got up and followed the doctor out.

Blood and urine tests were the lesser of the evil. Privacy checks, on the other hand, was asking too much of a person.

I instantly frowned and refused, "I can agree to a blood test or any other tests. But why is there a need to carry out a privacy check when you're just testing the concentration of a drug?"

The doctor called for the police, and the policewoman said, "Miss Reid, please cooperate with us. We detected traces of HIV on your syringe found in your bag. We suspect that you're infected, so we need to check!"

All of a sudden, my face sank. There was no way I would accept such an unreasonable request.

"I'm sorry, but I have the right to reject your inspection. I suspect that you're not investigating the case, but deliberately framing me." I looked coldly at everyone in the examination room.

I continued with my face darkened, "HIV can be tested by blood. Since you've already taken my blood, it means that you can test me for it. But now, you're saying that you want to add another privacy check to the list of tests. This is obviously an unnecessary move, and it's unreasonable. I need to contact my lawyer."

The policewoman looked at me grimly, "Miss Reid, you'd better cooperate with us, or you'll have to bear the consequences."

I sneered and continued being aggressive, "I don't know what the consequences are, but I find you suspicious. I have the right to refuse and to protect my rights."

I had gathered that it had been around five to six hours since my phone call with Michael. If I were a dumber, I might not have noticed anything unusual about this.

However, I was no fool. Although Michael was not as resourceful as before, it wouldn't be a problem for him to find me a lawyer or two.

But there was still no news from him after so many hours. Something was definitely amiss.

It seemed like I couldn't rely on him, but I was alone in Asherton. Where could I get help from?

Looking at the policewoman, I asked again, "I need to contact my family, right now."
