I was startled. I didn't expect that these girls were meant to transport shady goods.

For a moment, the other girls were also stunned. We had been homeless for many days. Although we knew that we had been bought for something, we hadn't known what for.

Realization only dawned upon me after hearing what he said. I took a deep breath; I was glad. If we hadn't run away at the time, we would have been used to transport illegal goods.

"I can only tell you that I am here by mistake. So, could you help us get back? I can give you whatever you want."

I had no choice but to plead.

The man pondered for a bit, looked up hesitantly before raising his hand and patting the tannedskinned driver. Then, they exchanged a few words.

The tanned man looked back at me, doubt in his eyes. After a while, he frowned and continued talking as he drove on.

After they'd finished talking, he looked at me and said, "Well consider sending you to Monsa, but the others will not come with you."

Then, the car stopped. Before we could say anything, we were gagged and pulled out of the car.

We were brought into a seaside villa, which was surrounded by the men in black uniforms.

I had thought that the five of us would be held together, but I didn't expect to be separated as soon as we entered the villa.

I was taken to the second floor, to a rather clean and tidy room.

The door closed, and the man motioned to the other to untie the rope around me. He told me, "Miss Reid, you may rest here for the next few days. We will have someone send you back to Monsa."

I was momentarily stunned before I finally understood what he meant. "Where are my friends?" I asked, confused.

The man shrugged, face darkening. "Miss Reid, I suggest you stop sticking your neck out for others. As long as you are able to save yourself, that's enough. The life and death of others have nothing to do with you."

After that, he turned around and left.

For the next few days, I was locked in the room. Every day, a middle-aged woman would bring me food. Since she could not understand my language, no matter how many questions I asked her, she always had nothing to say back to me.

I had a balcony in my room, from which I could see the scenery outside the villa. Outside was a boundless sea. The waves rolled in and out every night, dreamlike.

I could always hear faint screams coming from the villa, which cut me to the core.

But they'd always disappear by the time I was actually awake enough to hear them.

It was almost dawn when I caught sight of a few limousines downstairs. I had been awakened by the screaming and yelling, having discovered the black limousines when I had run to the balcony to listen to the noises.

A neat row of uniformed men, bodyguards, stood in the yard. The men in black, as well as the man who brought us here, were waiting by the car. I once heard, from the woman who brought me meals, that the tanned man was supposedly named Westin, while the other man was Tiago.

Family or surnames were not common in Myanway.

I then saw a man in a white suit getting out of the black limousine. His hair was combed to the side, and he looked intimidating from afar.

Westin stepped forward and said a few words to him. The white-suited man looked to Tiago after.

After they exchanged a few words, he raised his hand and pointed towards the upper floor of the villa.
