My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 946
The glass was already in my hand, and she was too enthusiastic to refuse. It would've seemed too unfriendly for me to do so. I couldn't help it. I had to drink.
But before I could, a hand reached out and took the glass away. I looked back and saw that Hendrix had already emptied the glass.
He stared blankly for a moment before Dahlia spoke up flirtatiously. "Mr. Roberts, are you a hero trying to save a damsel in distress?" As she spoke, her smile felt somewhat discomforting. A gorgeous woman might've masked their intentions better behind a dazzling smile. However, Dahlia's plain features made her insidious intentions come across clearly.
"Mr. Roberts, Arianna and I are good friends. We have known each other for so long, but I had not heard that she knew such a handsome man. Why don't we have a drink? Get to know each other. We could set a date to hang out next time!" It was an ordinary social invitation.
Hendrix looked down at me, and his eyes darkened slightly. I didn't know what he was thinking, but he took another glass, gulped it down, and said, "As Arianna's friend, I'll leave her in your care from now on." Hearing these words, Dahlia was slightly lost in thought. It seemed that this was Hendrix's first direct interaction with her. "Mr. Roberts, don't worry. Arianna and I are friends who have gone through life and death together. I will definitely take good care of her."
This stunned Hendrix. He looked at me. "Is that true?"
I didn't want to reply, and pursed my lips in silence.
But Dahlia picked up on Hendrix's interest. "Yes, we were taken to Myanway together. A lot of things happened and we almost lost our lives. Fortunately, we escaped from death and came back safely. It made us close friends."
Hendrix's look was piercing. He glanced at Evan, who had just come in out of the corner of his eye. I didn't know what it meant.
Evan sat down next to Dahlia and spoke to her in a low voice. After a while, they exchanged contacts.
I pursed my lips and thought, "Doesn't Evan hate being disturbed unnecessarily?"
Hendrix stretched out and hugged me unabashedly. He lowered his voice and said, "You don't want to tell me because you're afraid that I'll
be worried?"
I compressed my lips and said lightly, "No!"
He chuckled and said in a steady voice, "I don't know about freedom, so I won't let you go. Since you don't want to approach me, I'll approach you." These words warmed my heart. I looked down. I took a glass of wine from the table and downed it, to hide what I felt.
Suppressing my emotions, I said, "Hendrix, if you wish to torture me, then you can continue to do so."
He tightened his grip on my hand and uttered hoarsely, "Arianna, do you have to do this?"
I pursed my lips, and drank a few more glasses.
Dahlia, who was close, clearly wanted to speak with Hendrix. She tried to move closer a few times, but was blocked by Evan.
It embarrassed her. She stood up and looked at me. "Arianna, we should go back. Naomi and the others will get anxious."
I nodded. I had been thinking about leaving for a long time, so I prepared to leave.
But my shoulder was held down by Hendrix, and he turned to Evan and said, "Send Miss Duncan back!"
For a moment, Dahlia's expression soured. She looked at Hendrix and said, "Mr. Roberts, she and I left together. I have to bring her back."
"No, I'll send her back later!"
"Isn't this inappropriate? She's married. If she goes back too late, her husband will be worried about her. Stop making things difficult for me, Mr. Roberts."
As soon as she said that, she'd turned everyone's attention towards me.
Their gazes were varied in expression. They seemed very curious.
Hendrix smiled faintly, looking at me as he said, "How obedient you are. Keep it up."
I...
Seeing that he didn't react much, Dahlia smiled instead as she asked, "Mr. Roberts, you already know that Arianna is married?"
