Looking at his charming face, I didn't know what he was going to do next. I nodded slightly and said with a faint smile, "Please ask!"

He narrowed his eyes slightly and said, "As we all know, the Milton Group has been mainly engaged in petrol and jade over the years, and the Roberts Group is in search for a cooperating party to help expand our Artificial Intelligence plans. I can't deny that your proposal is perfect, but perfection doesn't really mean compatibility. Your group is not experienced in the Al field. Do you think we can work together smoothly in the future?"

Fortunately, I had thought about this issue in advance. After a pause, I said, "This has been discussed within the Milton Group beforehand as well, and we all came up with a proposal in resolving this. Mr. Roberts, you can take a look."

He did not reach out to take it. Instead, he glanced sideways at Evan who was beside him. Evan stretched out his hand to take it as he looked at me hesitantly.

I thought he'd have no more questions, but he suddenly looked at me and said, "Miss Reid, if I remember correctly, you should have been the project director with the Roberts Group. Why did you leave the position?"

I was stunned. I never thought that he would ask about that. Without waiting for my answer, he looked at Sebastian and suddenly smiled, "Is Mr. Milton aware of Miss Reid's past?"

How could he know?

The year I left Roberts Group, I did so with a stain on my reputation. Details of my departure were suppressed, so not many people knew.

He was trying to humiliate me by asking Sebastian about my past just so he could reveal it.

Sebastian looked at me, unperturbed, "Everyone has a past. I don't know what her past used to be, but what I do know is that she is a brilliant person now. Mr. Roberts, you also have your past affairs, don't you?"

Sebastian avoided it so easily.

Hendrix smiled at his words, "Mr. Milton, you are right, but we cannot deny that one's past might affect their future. When the Roberts chooses to cooperate with others, we will consider their strengths and especially their personalities, at the same time."

He seemed to imply a thing or two by saying so, which made a lot of spectators below the stage murmur amongst themselves regarding the reason that I'd been sacked from the Roberts Group.

People began to talk, some of them even guessed that Hendrix was acting this way because there was something going on between the three of us; that this was personal.

No one would be willing to fan the flames on such speculation, let alone in this situation.

I looked at Hendrix and said, "If you're questioning the integrity of my personal life, then I'll hand this project over to other members of the Milton Group to follow up on. You don't have to worry, Mr. Roberts." He frowned slightly, that was obviously not what he expected me to say. His cold gaze fell on me, his tone was icy. "No, you shall continue!"

Then he glanced at Evan and left, leaving the crowd stunned.

As I moved back to my seat, Sebastian said slowly, "It looks like you guys are fighting."

I pursed my lips and tossed him the document in my hand. "It's none of your business."

He raised his eyebrows. "Why are you so angry? You're the one hiding from him, and pushing him away. A man's dignity and patience can only last so long. What are you angry about?"

I stood up to leave. I did not want to have that conversation with him. I said, "The bid is over. I still have things to do. I'll leave first."

I know it's all my fault, but there were lots of people who knowingly make the wrong choices. Hendrix was better off without me.
