My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 990
I felt a twinge of envy but she did do me a favor. I nodded, "Okay then, go check on your man. I need to check in too. I'll call you in the afternoon."
I hurried to the office and opened the doors. I sighed in relief and laid my head on the desk while I caught my breath.
Linda saw me and handed me the bread in her hand, "Looks like you haven't eaten breakfast yet. Just eat it. It was scientifically proven that not eating breakfast is just like eating poop. Eating some bread works better than eating poop, I guess. Just make do!"
Better than eating poop?
"Why does it feel like you don't want me to eat the bread?"
She smiled faintly, "Don't think too much. How was last night? Did you sleep well?"
Her tone of voice seemed to be implying something more.
Perhaps Naomi told her about me. I shrugged and said lightly, "It was nothing special!"
We could not be idle and chat around during working hours, so she invited me to grab lunch together.
I accepted.
Back in the office, I had to bring the previous day's documents to Sebastian for him to sign off on. After I tidied up, I went straight to Sebastian's office.
I knocked on the door and the man's serious voice called from inside, "Come in!"
I pushed the door open and saw him sitting in front of the computer, a serious expression on his face.
Thinking of what Naomi told me, I couldn't help wonder if something was wrong. Where on earth was he injured?
"Mr. Milton, these documents need to be signed by you!" I said as I put the documents in front of him.
I saw the lunch box Naomi carried on his table. So she had been here.
"Okay." He said and finally raised his head to look at me. There was a strange look in his eyes, "What are you looking at?"
I blinked and realized that I had been staring intently at him. I said awkwardly, "Nothing, I just want to ask you if you had breakfast. Last night, you..."
He stared at me fiercely and I got flustered. Then, he said, "You set a trap for your boss. Arianna, what have you done?"
I shook my head and said sincerely, "Mr. Milton, you have to believe me. I really didn't do anything. I didn't know what happened last night and you saw what happened later. I went after Linda. After all, she drank so much wine. If I let her go, it would be very dangerous."
I had to know. I asked tentatively, "How were you last night?"
He frowned, "What do you mean by that?"
"Your body-!" I blurted out. I almost continued to ask if he had gone to see a doctor and if the problem was severe.
He raised his brows and said nonchalantly, "What's wrong with my body?"
I stammered.
There was no way I was going to say what was on my mind. So I forced a smile and hid my embarrassment, "You are very healthy. You've always been healthy."
I couldn't ask any more questions, so I turned to leave. He said, "People from the Roberts Group will be here for a meeting at 9.30 pm. You are in charge of the meeting. Don't be late."
I nodded in answer. Then he reached out for the file and I noticed that he had a bandage on his hand, shocked, I said without thinking. "Mr. Milton, your hand!"
He glanced briefly at the bandaged hand and said indifferently, "I was accidentally injured last night." That was why...
So it wasn't what I imagined?
I was a little embarrassed by then and hurried out of the office I called Naomi.
I asked when she picked up, "What did you do last night? How did Sebastian injure his hand?"
She was uncertain too. "I'm not sure. I don't remember that. When I saw his injured hand just now, I was also surprised. I couldn't remember how I hurt him. Well, I'm exhausted. I didn't sleep well last night. I'll go to bed first. We'll talk in the afternoon, bye."
Then she hung up.
When I returned to the office, Linda sent some documents over for the meeting later and reminded me specifically, "Today will be the first time that we are meeting with Roberts Group, so you have to get it together and not lose your focus."
I nodded. Since I was in charge I must not do things perfunctorily.
There was just enough time for me to finish reading through the details and key points for the meeting.
I walked out of the office and was headed for the conference room when I met Sebastian and Linda. They nodded at me and Sebastian said, "We'll go and welcome the people from Roberts Group together!" I was stunned. Why did the CEO of Milton Group need to personally welcome them?
