Chapter 117

I woke up feeling extremely foggy. My head hurts really badly, and my throat feels like sandpaper. Maybe I can just sleep a little while longer. Kenzo will wake me when I need to be up.

"How is she doing?"

I know that voice. Is that Beck? What's he doing in Kenzo and my bedroom?

"She hasn't woken up yet, but the doctor said she's fine. Probably just extremely tired." Kenzo replied.

Kenzo..

"It's been three days and she hasn't woken up?"

Why does Kenzo sound so angry? Who's he talking about?

"She's fine Mr. Suzuki. Opal went through something very traumatic, her body just needs rest. Remember she's sharing her body right now too." Someone replied to him. Sharing my body?

"Baby, you gotta wake up soon, okay? I miss you so much. I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that because of me. It's all over now though baby. So you have to wake up. You have to come back to me, kitten. That's an order." Why does Kenzo sound like that?

What happened? Why is Kenzo so sad? Why can't he just wake me up if he wants to?

Wake up Opal! Wake! Up!

Finally, I tore my eyes open. The light in the room was harsh, causing me to blink several times. My head still hurts really badly too. I groaned as I tried to sit up. My body feels so heavy. "Opal?"

I looked to the side of me to see Kenzo sitting in a chair next to my hospital bed. Hospital bed? Why am I in the hospital?

Everything came rushing back to me all at once. Putting on the ring Kenzo gave me, taking those pregnancy tests, being kidnapped by Evan and DM, and then everything with Hailey. Hailey.. she tried to kill me. The last thing that I remember was being trapped in that bathroom while the house burned down.

I looked around to see that I was hooked up to several machines. The heart monitor started to beep louder and more frequently. I tried to sit up again, but Kenzo was quick to push me back down.

"Opal relax. You've been asleep for four days. You shouldn't move yet." Kenzo ordered.

"Four days?!" I croaked out.

"Don't speak baby, let me go get the doctor." Kenzo said.

Kenzo pressed a button on a remote for me and my bed moved to sit me up. I smiled up at him and he kissed the top of my head. Then he rushed out of the room.

A moment later, Kenzo was back with a middle-aged woman in a white lab coat.

"Hi there Opal, I'm Dr. Kormack. I've been overseeing you while you've been here. How are you feeling?" She asked me.

"Uhm, my throat hurts." I said, my voice coming out raspy.

Dr. Kormack nodded.

"That was expected. You were severely dehydrated and you took in a lot of smoke. I'll have the nurse bring you some water and ice chips. Are you hungry?" She asked me. "Not really," I muttered.

My eyes connected with Kenzo's. His black eyes stared back at me intensely, sending shivers through my body.

"Opal," Kenzo said in warning.

"I might get hungry in a bit," I said.

"I'll have something light sent up. Don't eat too fast. The nurses will also start bringing you medications to take." Dr. Kormack told me.

I gave her a nod, and she turned to leave the room.

"Wait!" I croaked out.

The doctor turned back to me. My eyes flickered from her to Kenzo, and back. I'm not sure how to ask this without flat out giving it away..

"Uhm, is.. Is everything... with me okay?" I asked awkwardly.

Dr. Kormack smiled at me.

"The baby is fine Opal. Congratulations," she said.

Then the doctor walked out of the room, leaving Kenzo and I alone.

I sat back in bed and twiddled my fingers. I have so many questions, and I'm sure Kenzo has several for me too. I hope he isn't mad at me. None of this would have happened if I wouldn't have left our apartment. "I'm sorry.." I mumbled.

Kenzo gripped my chin and lifted my face up. Our eyes connected, and his are full of nothing but love. Which just brought tears to my own eyes.

"Why are you sorry kitten? None of this was your fault," he said.

"If I would have just stayed home-"

"They still would have gotten you somehow kitten. Especially Hailey. She would have taken me out to get to you. If it had to happen, I'm glad it happened this way. I might not have found you if it were different." He told me. A few tears fell from my eyes.

"It was so scary. Evan.. he tried to rape me. He was so close." I blubbered.

"I know baby." Kenzo said as he sat on my bed and wrapped his arms around me.

I clung to Kenzo as I sobbed.

"I hit him." I whispered.

"I know," Kenzo replied.

"Is he here too? Is he in jail?" I asked as I pulled away to look at my fiance.

Kenzo sighed as he averted his eyes. When he looked back at me, I could already tell I was not going to like what he had to say. Did Evan get away somehow?

"Opal, Evan is dead," Kenzo stated.

I blinked at him.

"What?" I breathed out.

"Baby.. You killed him when you escaped." Kenzo said gently.

I... killed someone?

"A-am.. Am I going to go to jail?" I asked, feeling terrified.

"No." Kenzo said, shaking his head. "It was self-defense. The P.I. that was there told the police everything. You will have to talk to the police, file a report with them, but you are not in trouble." He said. That's good, but..

"I killed someone.." I said sadly.

"He deserved it. If it wasn't you, it would have been me." Kenzo said dangerously.

I shook my head. I don't even want to think about how that would have turned out. Kenzo would definitely have gone to jail. "H-Hailey.. She.." I trailed off.

Kenzo nodded.

"She was crazy. A delusional fan of your father. She was convinced you were her daughter. She wasn't supposed to have been let out of the psych ward ever. I don't know how she managed to fool all of the doctors there." He told me. "How did you even find me?" I asked.

"The P.I. that took you was a big help. He saw her snooping around for a while before she took you and had someone run her plates. Hailey was crazy, which made her sloppy and stupid. After running her information, it was easy to find out where she had you. I'm just happy we made it in time." Kenzo said.

"Yeah, me too." I said.

I placed a hand over my stomach. Everything turned out fine. The baby is fine. I'm... pretty much fine.

A large warm hand fell on top of mine over my stomach. I looked up at Kenzo. He smiled down at my belly before looking at me.

"You knew you were pregnant?" He asked.

I shrugged.

"That was why I left. I got sick randomly again, and Kendra kind of brought it up. The three of us rushed to get a test, and I ended up taking three. They were all positive. I was going to go home and call you right away, but Evan got me as soon as I walked out of the bathroom." I said.

"Well," Kenzo said. "I'm glad you are both okay. It was a very happy surprise from the doctor," he said.

I smiled.

"You really think so?" I asked. "You aren't mad?"

"Mad?" Kenzo asked. "The woman who holds my heart, and I just created a new life. I'm beyond happy that you're carrying my child."

I beamed as more tears filled my eyes. I rubbed the tears away and sniffled.

"Gosh, I can't believe it. And all of this right after I-"

I stopped as I looked down at my left hand.

"My ring! Where's my ring?" I asked, panicked.

Don't tell me I lost it! I'll never get it back if I lost it in that fire. That ring meant so much to Kenzo, so much to me.

Kenzo grabbed my hands and held them in one of his. I looked up at him as he pulled something out of his pocket. Then he presented me with the very ring I was starting to freak out over.

"You still had it on when they found you." He told as he slid it on my finger.

I smiled as I looked down at it.

"You put it on before you even thought you were pregnant?" Kenzo asked.

I nodded as I looked back up at him.

"Yeah. I should have put it on the moment you gave it to me. I know that I want to be with you, and I'm done being scared," I said.

Kenzo leaned forward and kissed my lips. Then he pressed his forehead to mine and sighed. I relished the comfort he brings me.

"I'm so sorry, Opal," Kenzo said. "All of this happened because of me. Haru set up the kidnapping in the first place."

I gasped as I pulled away.

"Tell me you didn't do it! You didn't sign whatever it was he wanted you to sign! I'm not leaving you if you did just so you know! I hope you both understand-"

"Opal stop." Kenzo said as he pressed his finger to my lips. "No, I didn't sign anything." He said chuckling. "I didn't know you knew."

I shrugged.

"At first I didn't. They kept dropping hints though, so I was pretty sure. Then when Evan... tried to.. r**e me, he told me he was done waiting for Haru. I kind of pieced things together. I'm sure whatever he wanted was terrible." I said.

"He wanted me to leave you and do everything he said. Haru told me that if I didn't sign the contract, he would let them rape and kill you. Then he gave me three days to make a decision. I used that time to find proof that I could use to blackmail Haur." Kenzo told

me.

"I'm sorry that he used me to get to you." I said.

Kenzo shook his head.

"It's not your fault, Opal," he said. "I was too late. It didn't take me three days. I arrived at the motel minutes after Hailey took you." He told me.

"Really?" I asked. "Figures. That would be my luck." I muttered.

Kenzo chuckled and kissed my head again.

"So, what about Haru now? I'm sure that wasn't the last we heard from him." I said.

Kenzo's black eyes hardened. I frowned at him. Whatever he's about to tell me is going to be a lie. I already know it. A lie, or not the full truth? "Haru is missing."
