Chapter 61

Well, we ended up going to eat with Kenzo and Akane. It's been a little awkward so far. Kendra and Akane are getting along great. I have been pretty quiet, and Kenzo has barely taken his eyes off of me.

We were just seated at a table in the restaurant that Kenzo has brought me to before. He sat across the table from me, next to his sister. His legs stretched out to rest between mine.

"You look beautiful today Opal." Kenzo told me.

My face heated

"Th-thank you Kenzo," I replied

"You guys are too cute," Akane told us.

"Cute? You guys are acting weird. Is this how you are when you go out on dates?" Kendra asked teasingly.

"No." Kenzo said. "Opal is usually more talkative."

I just feel.. awkward. This is all weird. Kenzo and I never really talked about telling people we are dating. Not that I want to be a secret. I just thought he wanted to keep everything hush hush until we made things official. Then he just... said it. Like it was nothing. It's kind of throwing me through a loop. Is this part of making things up to me for his treatment the other week?

Maybe this is what he meant by taking things seriously with me? What does that mean for work? Am I still going to be some kind of secret?

"Opal has just had a long day. We've been walking around for hours. It was hard as hell to get a taxi when we left her apartment too." Kendra said.

"I told you that you could have used Ben." Kenzo said.

I looked up into his eyes.

"Don't you think that Ben deserves a day to spend with his family?" I asked.

"I do." Kenzo said with a nod. "That's why I don't have him today." He told me.

"Yet, you were going to interrupt his day for me." I murmured.

"He would have been more than happy to drive you around Opal. You know that Ben adores you." Kenzo said casually.

"Ben and I are friends yes." I said just as casual. "But I doubt that he would have been happy to leave his daughters birthday celebration to drive Kendra and I around all day." I said.

Kenzo's intense eyes softened.

"I didn't know Ben's daughter and I share a birthday." Akane said.

Kenzo didn't say anything in response. He just stared at me. I narrowed my eyes at him. Did he know that when he originally offered up Ben's services?

"How old is she?" Akane asked me.

"His youngest turned 13." Kenzo answered for me.

"Ah, so you do pay attention." Akane teased.

Although, I'm kind of surprised as well. Since starting as Kenzos secretary, he has shocked me a lot. The way that he seems to genuinely care about the people around him, while also demanding respect. It's admirable, and extremely sexy. Even if he did offer up Ben to me anyways.

"You should have taken him if you needed it." Kenzo told me.

I rolled my eyes.

"I didn't need him. We were fine. It was Kendra's fault for dragging me to every single store." I said as I looked at my best friend.

Kendra isn't paying me any attention as she looks over her menu.

"You should just let that man retire already." Akane said.

"I agree. With a huge bonus. That way he never has to worry about a thing." I said.

Kenzo gave me a bored look, and Akane giggled.

"I have already thought about hiring a new driver. I need someone I can trust though. Who follows orders. Ben's loyalty is going to be hard to replace." He said.

"Oh, what about my brother? Can I have him send you a resume?" Kendra asked.

"Your brother wants to be a drive for a rich CEO?" I asked.

Kendra looked to me.

"Listen, I called them yesterday after our talk. Madison told me that she is taking buisness classes in college, and that she has been wanting to talk to Daddy about running the company. She actually has many bright ideas. I was really shocked." She said. "That is shocking, but really great for you right?" I asked.

Kendra gave me a huge smile.

"Absolutely! I was thrilled when I found out. We even made plans to tell Daddy together. I'm nervous as hell, but I cannot wait." She said excitedly.

I'm so happy for Kendra. She can follow her dreams now.

Kendra can open up that salon she's always dreamed of.

"Anyways," She said waving her hand. "Mason has no idea what he wants to do. He doesn't want to go to school though, which kind of makes Daddy mad. I bet if he got a job it would ease some of Daddy's worries." She said. Then Kendra turned her head to Kenzo.

"He's a good driver. Like way good. Honestly he should think about a career in NASCAR or something. And he's very loyal. Can work weird hours too." She said.

Kenzo gave her a smile.

"Send his resume to Opal, and I will consider it." He said

"Sweet! Thanks Kenzo." Kendra replied.

Kenzo gave her a nod before turning his attention to his menu. Akane is giving her brother a strange look. One I don't understand.

"Mr. Suzuki." Our server came to our table.

We have the same server that we did when Kenzo and I came here before. Tara. A sweet young girl. Probably the only woman in this restaurant to not stare openly at Kenzo.

"Aaron has told me that he has something special planned for the four of you, and would like your permission to surprise you with your meal." She told us.

Kenzo looked up at her.

"As long as it's something more than salad." He said, and then looked at me.

My face heated as I frowned.

"I assure you it won't be," Tara said with a laugh. "Are any of you allergic to anything?" She asked.

"Opal is allergic to avocados," Kenzo said

I blushed. I told him that on our first date. I know it wasn't that long ago, but.. He remembers that?

Tara wrote that down on her pad before looking at Kendra.

Who shook her head, because she is allergic to nothing at all. Then Tara took all of our menus before excusing herself.

I looked up at Kenzo, and he smiled at me.

"So, Opal, how do you like working for my brother?" Akane asked.

"I like it a lot actually." I said.

"Even though you were so pis.sed off when you first got promoted?" Kendra asked with a snort.

I turned my head to frown at her.

"No, I'm still pi.ssed, but what can I do?" I said.

"You're still upset about that? I gave you a very large raise, and a bonus." Kenzo said.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

"First of all, you only gave me a bonus because your last secretary left her underwear in my desk drawer." I said.

Kenzo's eyes turned hard, and both women turned to him.

"What?" Kendra asked.

"That June women?" Akane asked

Kenzo gave me a hard look before sighing.

"Yes June. I don't know what possessed her to make such a bold move, but she did." He said

"Well, at least she's fired now." Kendra mumbled

I froze. My eyes slowly looked up at Kenzo. Who is looking down avoiding my gaze.

"Oh no," Akane said shaking her head. "You didn't fire her?"

She asked.

Kenzo cleared his throat, and took a drink of his water.

"I had other things on my mind. I didn't think it was a big deal." He said.

Kenzo looked at me while he spoke. As if his words were meant to ease me somehow, but.. I don't really feel uneasy.

It's not like I even see her anymore. I do hear her talk about me sometimes, but what else is new at that place.

"I really don't care if she's fired or not, as long as she is being a good secretary to Ted." I said.

"I'll have Beck check on it first thing in the morning." Kenzo told me.

I smiled at that.

"And if she isn't? Do I get to go back?" I asked.

Kenzo's eyes hardened instantly.

"No." He stated coldly.

"Can I at least help pick the next one?" I asked.

"That's up to Mr. Mackley," Kenzo stated

"Fine." I said.

"So anyways, I hope Ken treats you well there. I know that he can be kind of bossy. Although, he must have done something right to start taking you out." Akane said with a smile. "After we first met, I told him that you were far too sweet to be his secretary. He went on and on about how well you were doing, and how he made the right choice in promoting you." She told me.

I looked up at Kenzo.

"Really?" I asked.

Kenzo nodded.

"You do far better than any other secretary I've had. You are attentive, and go above and beyond every day. I appreciate all of the hard work you do for me. I especially appreicate all of the late nights you work just for me." He said.

My face heated. Yeah.. I totally stay late nights for work.

Not because I want Kenzo to touch me and make me cu.m.

"Just like this past Friday. Opal here stayed for hours after work. It was the exact release I needed." He said.

My face heated up more. Kenzo smirked at me. I want to punch him in his smug face.

Instead, I cleared my throat, and turned to Akane.

"Sorry that we crashed your birthday plans." I told her.

Akane waved me off.

"Please, this was great. I got to meet the girl that my brother has been secretly seeing. Well, we met before, but this was a very nice surprise." She said.

I smiled at her.

"I'm glad that you don't mind. Thank you for inviting us. I thought Kendra was never going to let me relax." I teased.

"Just wait until we leave here. I have four more stores that we can go to before they close. Plus we can hit up that small pub on the corner next to your house." Kendra said

I groaned.

"Well, if you want, I would love to go with you instead," Akane said.

"Really?" Kendra asked.

"Yeah, sounds way fun. Plus, Opal can get home faster.

Sounds like she's done for the day." Akane replied.

"You have no idea," I told her.

Kendra sighed.

"Okay, but Kenzo has to take you home so that I know you make it safely." She said.

I looked up at Kenzo.

"I would love to make sure you make it home safe."
